Gothamist discusses visiting (and home team) players being hung over for their games…

Rush & Molloy theorize how the Yankees won
against the Oakland A's the other weekend - it was because Athletics'
players Nick Swisher and Joe Blanton (who wasn't pitching) went to
Plumm in the Meatpacking district, ordering $1,000 of vodka (which
means 2 bottles) and “helped close the bar.”

    That's a new, subversive
angle for the NYC Nightlife Association to bring to community boards -
“We're here to souse visiting sports teams' players!” Then again, maybe
going out so much isn't that good an idea, as Rush & Molly also
point out that Yankees Derek Jeter, Johnny Damon and Bubba Crosby were
at 40/40 Club and all were only okay the next day. We bet George
Steinbrenner will have a talking-to with them this morning!

Amazin' Avenue points out who are the most clutch players when the Mets need them the most…

WPA tells us, based on significant historical data, which moments of a
ballgame are the most critical; i.e., the highest leverage situations.
Thanks to Fangraphs, we can clearly see who is excelling in these
situations, as well as who is coming up short.

Offensively, here are the Mets' top and bottom three:

A question came to the Hot Foot mailbag recently asking the following…

Could you maybe get stats on the Mets vs relievers compared to vs starters? It seems like against the starters they struggle more, but when the other team brings in the bullpen they do a lot better.

One theory I have (besides the fact a lot of relievers just aren't that good, but they have been able to get to some closers who are having good years so far) is they chase a lot of bad pitches at times. A starter who throws junk is more likely to give them trouble then a reliever who has to come in and throw strikes.

An interesting theory, i've noticed the same. Perhaps its because the teams the Mets have faced thus far have some of the less effective bullpens in baseball. I'll try and dig up some numbers to analyze this.

    Who Is Hot Foot?

Hot Foot was founded by a group of life long friends who also happen to be die hard Mets fans. Hot Foot comes from the great 1986 Mets relief pitcher Roger McDowell who would use a wad of gum to stick a roll of cigarettes to the back of unsuspecting teammates shoes and light them on fire, thus a Hot Foot. Hot Foot is inspired by the same rock and roll baseball mentality of Roger and the 86 Mets, and uncensored commentary with news, notes, rumors and analysis revolving around the world of the Amazin New York Mets.
