Eddie Coleman was a guest of Chris Russo’s today on WFAN.
Eddie was asked if the now infamous Tony Bernazard is with the team and speaking with the media.
“He’s here (in Colorado), we haven’t talked to him as a group but he’s here to be talked to, he hasn’t held a press conference though.”
Eddie spoke regarding media reports of Jerry Manuel backstabbing or politicking for Willie’s job.
“I don’t think Manuel was trying to get Willie’s job…Willie felt that people knew stuff that he didn’t know but I don’t think Manuel’s is that type of guy.”
Eddie detailed some of things Manuel plans to implement.
“The next obstacle is Carlos Delgado, two things Manuel has stressed is resting guys and fluidity in the line-up and I think if he’s not hitting, he wont be in the line-up.”
Eddie gave some insight regarding players and their reaction to the change.
“I think the players know it’s on them now…they are associated with the collapse and now the slow start.”
Eddie’s opinion of Manuel.
“I like Jerry I think he’s a good man, he’s a good manager, he’s a guy who can motivate this bunch and more important he thinks he can.”
Eddie also said he spoke to Tori Hunter, now with the Anaheim Angels, and Hunter said this is the time of year where Johan Santana ‘really starts to kick it in’.

With Mets VP Tony Bernazard taking a beating in the local media of late he seems to have plenty of allies in the Mets organization. Adam Rubin of the Daily News is reporting that ‘insiders’ are telling him that Bernazard could actually replace Omar Minaya if things don’t turn around.
VP Tony Bernazard is in prime position to assume the GM responsibilities if Minaya is ousted, insiders tell the Daily News.
Rubin goes on to write that Bernazard has the trust and respect of Jeff Wilpon. Jeff especially likes Bernazard emphasis on homegrown players.
The reports that Bernazard is a bad guy are abundant but the ones that I’ve read aren’t very specific. Eddie Coleman of WFAN the other day told a story of Bernazard sitting in the dugout with Jerry Manuel while Willie Randolph was throwing batting practice. Chris Russo and Mike Francesa agreed with Eddie that there was something wrong with that. Now, I don’t claim to know or understand the correct etiquette but some of this stuff should be explained further. If someone is a bad guy and a backstabber then specific incidents should be easy to sight. Seems like the media may have focused on a fall guy here and it might be a bit unfair.

Well, I guess if you want to put a positive spin on the hit Mets vice president of player development Tony Bernazard has taken over the last couple of days it would be, there’s no place to go but up.
The bad reports about Bernazard continue to pile up and from what Ken Davidoff of Newsday is reporting he doesn’t seem to care.
Davidoff wrote that Beranzard hung around Angel Stadium laughing and joking with Jay Horiwitz during batting practice yesterday. When asked about the negative things being said about him Bernazard told Davidoff:
“I’m not going to comment on it, I don’t talk about what we talk about internally. I’ve got a great reputation. I don’t have to defend myself against unfounded rumors.”
This only seems to be getting worse and worse for Bernazard, every story paints an even more bleak picture than the next. Davidoff continues:
The truth, however, is that Bernazard’s reputation has taken a pummeling. Take this for what it’s worth, but Wednesday, I received two phone calls from industry contacts — the first, a longtime friend of many Hispanic players, and the second, a scout from an American League team. Both, unsolicited, brought up Bernazard, both professed to not know him and both offered the same sentiment: “I hear he’s a really bad guy.”
Davidoff’s column has much more and it doesn’t get any better. I’m not sure what the Mets are going to to about Bernazard if anything but it is not a feel good situation, that’s for sure.
Bill Madden of the Daily News writes today regarding Mets assistant general manager Tony Bernazard.
Meanwhile, Bernazard, the unofficial godfather to the Mets’ Latin players, has been a constant undermining presence in the Mets clubhouse even though he is supposed to be Minaya’s assistant.
If Randolph had a problem with the Latin players like Carlos Beltran, Carlos Delgado and Jose Reyes - it was only because they felt they could go to Bernazard with their problems.
Even worse, clubhouse sources have said Bernazard would relay to the Latin players critical comments Randolph made about them in private meetings of the Met high command.
Marty Noble spoke regarding Bernazard on XM Radio.
Tony Bernazard told many people internally last year that he wanted a new manager and wanted it to be Manny Acta. Word obviously got around to Noble and many others. Since Bernazard has continued his role there, ownership approves.
Bernazard has been raked over the coals by much of the New York media for ‘gloating’ over Willie Randolph’s dismissal. Many feel like Bernazard and Willie were at odds through most of Randolph’s reign and Omar would not confirm or deny the stormy relationship when the subject came up on his interview on WFAN yesterday.
If Bernazard was an undermining factor while Willie was here, can he be trusted to not be an undermining factor going forward as well?
