Ken Rosenthal is at it again. He is reporting that the Mets and OF Moises Alou are discussing a 2-year deal, not the one-year, $8 million deal reported earlier this morning.
Rosenthal notes that this would also mean that if Alou signs with the Mets, OF Lastings Milledge is all but gone by Opening Day 2007.
I've made up my mind and I think I'd rather have the platoon. We have enough offense and we need some defense in the outfield. Alou can't run anything down and Shawn Green can't field anything hit away from him while Milledge and Endy Chavez are both good outfielders (I know what you are thinking, but he had a bad series aganist Boston).
Now, about the 2-year deal. I get it on only one condition. They let Green walk after this season and they start either Milledge or Carlos Gomez in 2008. If thats not the case, then its a bad move signing him to the second season.
The folks at Newsday have learned that the Mets organization is souring on OF Lastings Milledge by the day and it seems more and more likely he will be traded this winter. Besides his lackluster play, his attitude has also turned off some members of the organization.
Also on the Milledge front, it appears that the Mets have had internal discussions about trading Milledge and P Aaron Heilman to Toronto in exchange for OF Vernon Wells. If the Mets are to acquire Wells, he would be moved to right field while Shawn Green would move to left.
Milledge has also been brought up in discussions involving White Sox Pitchers Javier Vazquez and Freddy Garcia, Marlins P Dontrelle Willis and Padres P Jake Peavy.

power from their corner outfielders. They ranked a composite 23rd in
slugging according to Elias Sports Bureau, with Floyd 22nd and Green
19th at their positions among players with 250 at-bats as reported in today's New York Post.
Last night, Green hit a home run and narrowly missed another. Floyd added an RBI, a double and a warning track fly of his own.
“I was really happy with the swing. The last few
days I've been feeling pretty good. I'm just trying to work off of
those last 5, 6 games,” said Green, who admitted they've lost a little
edge since clinching.
“It's hard not to have a little bit of a
hangover. We'd like to go into this trip and start getting back on
track so we can get that feeling of shaking hands at the end of the
game as we start October. We've got to move forward now and get into
that playoff mindset.”
Willie Randolph professed confidence both in Green and in his club's ability to shake its offensive funk.
“Greenie
is right there,” Randolph said. “He's clicking at times. He's an
excellent hitter. He's starting to adjust, and he's showing if you make
a mistake he can still hurt you. Greenie's going to be fine; he knows
how to hit.”
Shawn Green was ecstatic to join the Mets last night, and was able to contribute a hit and knock in a run. Dan Martin of The New York Post, quotes Green commenting after the game about how happy he was to be in New York.
Green sees the Mets as a team that can contend for years to come, and already has his sights on being a contributor next year as well.
One of Shawn's best friends in baseball, Carlos Delgado, felt that Green could be a nice addition to the team, but didnt feel like he would have too much pressure to handle a heavy load.

Jon Heyman on CNNSI.com reports that the Mets have interest in Moises Alou as well, and may not be done adding to their outfield to solidify their offense.
The Mets are still eyeing Alou, who really fits their needs better
than Green in that he's right-handed, although the impending
acquisition of Green may slightly lessen the chances for an Alou deal.
Alou is actually more desirable in that his contract expires at year's
end. Alou has a .522 slugging percentage; Green is slugging .429.
However, there's a potentially big impediment to an Alou deal in that
the Giants still consider themselves buyers. Should they lose a few
more games and fall further out of the race, that could change,
however. The Giants are currently six games out in the National League
West and five games out in the wild card. The Mets have been watching
the Giants' progress closely the past several days.
The post below in which Mr. Foot said that the Green deal was being finalized. Well, that just happened.
Allen 'Bud' Selig approved the trade just a few minutes ago, according to mlb.com, because the swap involved cash considerations, which reportedly is slightly more than $6.3 million. Green is owed about $12.75 million for the rest of his contract.
Along with the cash, Omar Minaya was able to get Shawn Green and only give up minor-leaguer Evan MacLane.
MacLane, 23, is considered a good prospect, but like Jeff Keppinger, he is considered to not have much of a future in Gotham.
…Good trade Omar. Michael Tucker is starting to bother me, and Lastings Milledge needs more seasoning. Endy Chavez and Shawn Green would be good corners of the OF…

The Mets will receive cash along with Green to cover a portion of his salary, in exchange the Mets will provide the Diamondbacks with a minor league player.
It is not yet know how much money the Mets will receive. The deal will need approval from the commisioners office because of the cash considerations.
Green is hitting .283 with 11 homers and 51 RBIs this season and helps bolster their outfield which has recently lost Xavier Nady to trade and Cliff Floyd to injury.

“Obviously that's a big perk,” Green told reporters at Coors
Field. “The most important thing to me is my family so I'd have to
discuss it with them.”
A deal to bring Shawn Green to the Mets has been discussed with the Diamonback, reports The New York Daily News.
Green has10 home runs, 49 RBI and is hitting .281 this season.
He will make $9.5 million next year and has a mutual option of $10 million for 2008
