Jon Heyman on SI.com writes of the influence Scott Boras wields in the amateur draft and how the Mets are expected to continue to follow slotting rules. Omar Minaya states the Mets “will look at it on a case-by-case basis”
Lower-ranking Mets officials continue to believe that the team is more likely than not to continue to stick to the slots, even if it costs them a chance to grab one of the best hard-hitting first baseman they seek (the Mets also covet a catcher). After Alvarez, University of Miami lefthanded-hitting first baseman Yonder Alonso is said by one scout to seek $8 million with the backing of his adviser Brian Peters. Other big-hitting first basemen include switch-hitting Justin Smoak of South Carolina, Dysktra and Arizona State’s Brett Wallace, another lefthanded hitter.
Heyman also writes that a team looking to trade for Matt Holliday will need to start with giving up two of their best young players in return.
Sphere: Related ContentFoxsports.com is reporting that Tigers OF Gary Sheffield has said that once his case with the Yankees regarding money that he might be owed is settled, he will not be hesitant to reveal “ugly things” about his former agent Scott Boras.
Of Boras, Sheffield says “It ain’t going to be pretty, No fine is going to be big enough. No suspension is going to be long enough.”
I think we’ve all known for awhile that Boras is not easy to negotiate with, but after the A-Rod fiasco, Boras rep was hit pretty hard and realizes that not many people in baseball are his fans. That being said, as long as he keeps getting the money, players will continue to go to him.

Kenny Rogers told major league teams today that he is dropping Scott Boras as his agent and will represent himself as a free agent, Fox Sports reports.
Rogers is the second high profile client to keep Boras out of his negotiations, after Alex Rodriguez did so to return to the Yankees this week.
Rogers wants to return to the Tigers, who have said he must apologize to management for his behavior, such as attacking a cameraman during his tenure with the team.
The Tigers have made contract offers to the Rogers, who had an injury plagued 2007 season, through Boras, but they have been declined.
While he’s at it, can we get Rogers to apologize to Mets fans for the 1999 NLCS?
