Best Of Manny Being Manny

This has absolutely nothing to do with the Mets but it is too darn entertaining not to post. Enjoy…

And what may be the greatest Manny being Manny moment ever, and perhaps one of the top plays of all time.

While appearing on The Hot List, Nationals GM Jim Bowden was asked to give some insight on the Nationals for the meetings. Bowden responding by saying he
“expects a trade that will shock the baseball world will happen in the
next 72 hours”. When asked if the potential trade would involve the Nationals, he backtracked
but appeared to give a bit of a smirk to the camera.

I love the winter meetings. Its like the entire month leading up to the trade deadline rolled into four days and I can't get enough of it. If only there were two winter meetings each offseason.

Anyway, enough of me orally stimulating the winter meetings. I can't really picture Bowden making that big of a trade because he said earlier in the interview that he intends on rebuilding the team through the draft, so he might be alluding to a possible Manny Ramirez deal.

Red Sox and Dodgers Talk Manny

Ken Rosenthal reports on Fox Sports that the Dodgers and Red Sox are discussing a possible Manny Ramirez deal. The Dodgers. Rosenthal believes that a package of Brad Penny, third baseman Andy LaRoche and first baseman James Loney could be enough to make the deal happen, but the Red Sox are likely to be interested in right-hander Jonathan Broxton, as the Sox are seeking a closer.

However, The LA Times reports that the Dodgers think the Sox want too much reporting that the Sox want power hitting prospect Matt Kemp included in a deal along with Broxton and another player. The Sox also want the Dodgers to pay every penny left on Manny’s salary, which is $38 million over the next 2 years. Dodger scouts don’t want to deal Kemp or Broxton, but Grady Little is interested in the prospect of reuniting with his cantankerous former outfielder.

Rosenthal also reports that the Dodgers, Cardinals and Orioles are interested in Luis Gonzales.

Pods Wont Trade Peavy For Manny

Ken Rosenthal, aka Mr.November, reports on Fox Sports that the Padres have no interest in giving up Jake Peavy in return for Manny Ramirez

The Padres will not include right-hander Jake Peavy
in a trade for Red Sox left fielder Manny Ramirez, according to a
source with knowledge of the discussions.

    In fact, the
source says, talks between the teams have cooled in recent days,
raising the possibility that the Red Sox are talking more seriously
    with other clubs.

The Dodgers still appear to be the most logical match for the
Red Sox. But while the teams have spoken, the Dodgers are not in hot
pursuit of Ramirez, according to a second source.

The Red Sox want a quality major-league piece and prospects for Ramirez.

    Around The Majors

A Jake Peavy for Manny Ramirez deal could be in the works.

The Mariners have contacted the agent of OF Luis Gonzalez.

The Giants and C Bengie Molina are in serious contract negotiations.

The Phillies as well as the Indians and P Joe Borowski are working on a 1-year deal.

The Cubs are more likely to trade OF Jacque Jones than OF Matt Murton.

    Around The Majors

P Gil Meche spent the night at a Maple Leafs game accompanied by Blue Jays GM J.P. Riccardi.

The Red Sox and OF J.D. Drew are expected to sign a 4-year deal worth $15-16 million a season with a vesting option for a fifth year.

Sources told the Chicago Sun Times that the Cubs did not offer P Jason Schmidt a 3-year contract worth $44 million. It is still believed the club has interest in Schmidt though.

Now a bunch of nuggets from Mr. Baseball, Ken Rosenthal:

The Orioles are ridiculiously dumb for spending so much money on Ps Jamie Walker, Chad Bradford, Scott Willamson and Danys Baez.

OF Manny Ramirez would be a great fit for the Dodgers because he has experience with manager Grady Little.

The Red Sox plan on making a run at Devil Rays OF Rocco Baldelli.

The Braves are unlikely to sign P Tom Glavine if they cannot trade P Tim Hudson.

C Rod Barajas did not sign with the Blue Jays because his wife didn’t want to move to Canada.

The Cubs, Mets, Royals and several NL West clubs have shown interest in P Miguel Batista.

The Diamondbacks, Padres, Giants, Rangers and Indians are showing interest in P Mark Mulder, who isn’t expected to return before the all-star break.

    Who Is Hot Foot?

Hot Foot was founded by a group of life long friends who also happen to be die hard Mets fans. Hot Foot comes from the great 1986 Mets relief pitcher Roger McDowell who would use a wad of gum to stick a roll of cigarettes to the back of unsuspecting teammates shoes and light them on fire, thus a Hot Foot. Hot Foot is inspired by the same rock and roll baseball mentality of Roger and the 86 Mets, and uncensored commentary with news, notes, rumors and analysis revolving around the world of the Amazin New York Mets.
