Ed Coleman Report On WFAN

Eddie Coleman spoke to Chris Russo with his Mets report on WFAN

Coleman started off announcing that Duaner Sanchez was undergoing surgery as we speak, ending his season.

Coleman heard that Duaner and his cousin went to get something to eat at 1AM, in hindsight he wished he would have taken room service instead.

Exiting 62nd street, the accident occurred. He was not wearing his seatbelt, put his arm up to brace himself from the partition.

The injury is a severe seperation with torn ligaments.

Nady was upset about leaving, essentially a  south florida cab driver sends him from a playoff bound team to the celler dwelling Pirates. The Mets should be better defensively in right field.

Roberto Hernandez said he's fully rested in a good place right now, they scaled back on him in the last few weeks in Pittsburg.

Milledge will get the games Nady ordinarily played. He will also fill in for Floyd as well. Coleman thinks they can get by and match the Nady numbers. Sanchez was a guy that surprised the Mets, and he pitched very well for them.

Giants said today, the Mets didnt put Milledge in a package for Jason Schmidt.

Discussing Glavine, he was not happy with being taken out early. Coleman said he thinks he lacks confidence right now. He needs to command things a bit better.

Coleman said he could see a situation when Pelfrey pitches tonight and goes back to the minors, so they can get Maine another start. Unless Pelfrey wows the Mets, he see them going with the veteran arms in the playoffs, Pedro, Glavine, Trachsel and El Duque.

Pitch count was down for Pedro last outing, which was a good sign. He's going to back out there on Thursday. He sees plenty of opportunites to scale back his starts to give him more rest in September.

Trade Rumors : Gotham Baseball - Beane wants Maine

From Gotham Baseball

The
sudden “availability” of Barry Zito hasn't appeared to have swayed
Mets' GM Omar Minaya from his steadfast assertion that Lastings
Milledge
is “untouchable”.

At least it hasn't yet, according to one baseball source that GBM spoke with on Wednesday.

“(Minaya)
is keeping all of his options open,” he said. “(But) I still think he
wants Zito (more) than anyone else he's looked at.

Back
at the Winter Meetings, an industry source had informed GBM that a list
of players — some already on the Mets' roster, some not – had been
given to Minaya from Oakland, either before or during the event, with
instructions that “if you get those players we'll talk.

Duaner
Sanchez, Xavier Nady and Lasting Milledge were said to be on that list,
as was John Maine's. The latter was “the target acquisition” in the
Kris Benson to the Orioles trade, according to our source then and
based on new information we currently have, indications are that it is
Maine, not Mike Pelfrey, that Beane covets in a possible Zito deal.

Willie Going With Six This Time Around

Manager Willie Randolph said the Mets' plan is to use
all six starters over the next six games and weed out one based on how
they do, reports the New York Post.

Here's how the rotation with shape out over the next few days…

Tuesday, July 24th - Tom Glavine vs. Cubs
Wednesday, July 25th - John Maine vs. Cubs
Thursday, July 26th - Off Day
Friday, July 27th - Pedro Martinez @ Braves
Saturday, July 28th - El Duque @ Braves
Sunday, July 29th - Mike Pelfrey @ Braves

According to Randolph, whoever doesn't stay in the rotation out of
Pelfrey, Maine and even El Duque could end up in the bullpen.

“It could be anybody,” Randolph said

Maine Remains As Reliever, Possible Spot Start

The New York Times reports that John Maine will remain with the Mets as a reliever, and depending on the status of Pedro Martinez, may make a spot start…

Martínez, who
rejoined the team Thursday but was unavailable for comment, was
scheduled to throw on the side Friday or Saturday. But even if he
throws Friday and says his sore hip feels better and that he is
stronger, it is unlikely the Mets would rush him into starting
Wednesday. Either Maine or Steve Trachsel, Friday’s starter, would
replace him.

Maine and Pelfrey were not made available to the news media after
Thursday’s workout. Maine did not pitch poorly in his two recent
starts, allowing five earned runs in 10 2/3 innings, but the Mets have
more invested in Pelfrey and feel that he would develop more quickly in
the major leagues.

Who Is Hot Foot?

Hot Foot was founded by a group of life long friends who also happen to be die hard Mets fans. Hot Foot comes from the great 1986 Mets relief pitcher Roger McDowell who would use a wad of gum to stick a roll of cigarettes to the back of unsuspecting teammates shoes and light them on fire, thus a Hot Foot. Hot Foot is inspired by the same rock and roll baseball mentality of Roger and the 86 Mets, and uncensored commentary with news, notes, rumors and analysis revolving around the world of the Amazin New York Mets.
