Marlon Anderson has been once again removed from play, after feeling some lingering pain from his collision with Ryan Church last week.
The lesson in all of this I believe is: don’t run into Ryan Church.
Marty Noble over at mlb.com reports that Carlos Beltran and Carlos Delgado both might just play tomorrow. If this is to occur, then only Moises Alou (currently being stored in dehydrated form), Ruben Gotay and Luis Castillo would remain amongst the too ailing to participate. According to Noble, Beltran would be used as a DH, while Delgado would take his standard spot at first base.
And to think, just a week ago we were penciling the staff here at Hotfoot into bench spots. Hopefully I’m not the one who has to tell Mets Gal she will no longer be the utility outfielder for the team.
Hat tip to Aaron on LI for the tip.
The Houston Chronicle reports that Kaz Matsui, who was out due to a mystery ailment that was definately not hemorroids has been flown back to Houston. To treat his hemorroids.
He is expected to be able to play through it, though no word on how it will affect him once he’s benched for a better hitting second basemen.
In unrelated injury news, El Duque was injured in a freak Zombie attack before sunrise this morning. He is currently reporting no ill effects.
Various medical updates are bouncing across the internets on our many partially functional Mets. Brian Schneider and Endy Chavez are reportedly ready to play in tommorrow’s games, which would join them amongst other ailing players Damion Easley and Marlon Anderson.
Peter Blotte, subbing for Adam Rubin, also says Ruben Gotay has shed his injury boot, though no word if he’s switched it up for some stylish Ugs.
In other injury updates, a local resident of Port St Lucie has been accused of turning Orlando “El Duque” Hernandez into a newt, though preliminary reports indicate that he got better.
John Delcos reports that Jason Vargas is back from his testing and is not seriously injured.
As I said in the last one of these, till I see some bigger names and back to work, I’m not really going to pay much attention. Vargas will be in the minors anyway.
Matt Cerrone over at the Mets Blog is reporting that Marlon Anderson and Damion Easley are both back with the team and traveling to the game tonight, which is a sign they are actually ready to play.
Now we just need the other dozen injured members of the 25 man roster to be able to play. Hey its great they’re ready and all, but personally I’m a little more worried about the starters who still can’t do anything. Castillo, Delgado, Beltran. I’m sure Castro is thrilled that there are other healthy guys to warm the bench with him for the first six innings and all, but I’m not going to get too excited till the starting players not named Alou can play.
12 of the projected 15 position players are hurt at this moment.
“I have never seen so many injuries,” general manager Omar Minaya said.
David Lennon on his blog for Newsday provides this rundown…
Lets hope they’re getting it out of their system now. Rather have guys hurt in March than in August.
Adam Rubin reports in his blog that Ruben Gotay’s injury is not as bad as initially reported, and is merely a sprain.
Good news for Gotay, bad news for Anderson Hernandez.

Ruben Gotay sprained his ankle in todays game, as the Mets continue to get all those pesky injuries out of the way now before the season actually starts.
In what makes little to no sense, Moises Alou is currently injury free, but was last seen running through Dodgertown with a pair of scissors.
