Mets Trade for Vargas

According to Mets.com, The Mets have made a trade with the Florida Marlins.

27 year old RHP Henry Owens and 26 year old RHP Matt Lindstrom are headed to Florida for 23 year old LHP Jason Vargas and 23 year old LHP Adam Bostick.

“We think Vargas and Bostick are two promising lefthanded pitchers and we're happy to have them in the organization,” said Mets General Manager Omar Minaya.

The Marlins drafted Vargas out of Long Beach State with their second-round pick in the 2004 draft. Vargas went 1-2 with a 7.33 ERA for the Marlins and 3-6 with a 7.43 ERA for the Isotopes in 2006.

Bostick went 1-2, 4.67 in five starts after his promotion to Triple-A Albuquerque, with a 30/13 K/BB in 27 innings. On the year, he went 9-9, 3.74 with a 139/80 K/BB in 142 innings between the Isotopes and Double-A Carolina.

Owen after four years in the class A leagues was promoted to the AA Binghamton Mets, where he compiled 51 and only allowed 8 hits in 25 innings pitched while closing.

He made his major league debut on July 7th 2006. He pitched a perfect ninth inning in a 7-3 Mets loss to the Florida Marlins. The first batter he faced, Alfredo Almezaga, struck out looking at a 96 mph fastball.

Lindstrom began the 2005 season at AA Binghamton, which was determined to be a make-or-break year for his career. He went 2-5 with an ERA of 5.40 with and had troubling walk and home-run rates of 6.75 BB/9 and 1.35 HR/9 in thirty-five games. He had ten starts, and was switched to bullpen duty midway through the season.

  • Trade Rumors : Gonzo & Ardoin For Owens & Lindstrom?

Mets Blog is reporting by way of Ken Rosenthal on Fox Sports that the Mets may be in talks to acquire cathcer Danny Ardoin, 32, was designated for assignment by the Rockies last Friday and jack of all trades, Luis Gonzales.

    A
poor hitter but strong defender, he likely would replace Mike DiFelice.
    Ramon Castro
, the Mets' primary backup catcher, underwent surgery last
week to repair a torn meniscus in his left knee.

    Gonzalez,
27, primarily is a second baseman, but he has played all four infield
positions in the past two seasons as well as left field and right. He
would give the Mets protection if Jose Valentin again is slowed by his
right hamstring injury. Chris Woodward is currently the Mets' only
    backup infielder.

In return for Ardoin and Gonzalez, the Rockies
likely would receive Class AA right-hander Matt Lindstrom, 26, or Class
    AA right-hander Henry Owens, 27.

month firing off seven and a third solid innings with six strikeouts.  He allowed just one run on three hits and
three walks. He carried a one hitter into the

Edgardo Alfonzo drilled a homerun and
drove home three in a 2-4 night in support of MacLane.  The only other Tide with two hit was Tagg Bozied who was 2-3 with a solo HR
    and two runs scored.

Catcher Yunir Garcia started his first game for
    Norfolk, after
one pinch hitting appearance, and was 1-3.

    Lima
who was pitching a shutout until surrendering four runs in the sixth
    inning.

Victor Diaz and Bobby Malek both had two hits and an
    RBI.

    Binghamton Mets (AA)

    Saturday

Michael Devaney turned in a solid start allowing two runs, one
earned in five innings.  He gave up six
    hits and walked four.

Matt Lindstrom gave up two runs in .1 of an
    inning.

The final run came against Henry Owens, who took his second AA
    loss.

Sal Aguilar turned in a nice start,
allowing two runs in seven innings.  He struck
    out two and walked two.

Carlos Muniz blew the save in the ninth
by giving up a run, but Stewart’s blast made him a winner.

    Sunday

    Jose Coronado’s
three-run, eighth-inning single proved to be the margin, as St. Lucie battled
back from a big deficit and shaky starting pitching to beat Vero Beach at historic Holman Stadium.  (Ed: If you had trouble with the concept of a
    three-run single, you weren’t alone.
Coronado himself scored the third run on the play on a throwing error on
Vero’s catcher.  This, my friends, is
    minor league baseball.)

    Carlos Muniz
pitched the final out of the game to pick up his 27th save of the season.

    Hagerstown Suns (A-)

    Saturday

Deolis Guerra (5-7) allowed just one run in his five innings on two hits.  He walked three and struck out three,

SS this year, and promoted this week from Kingsport,
    was 2-3 with two doubles.

    Sunday

Jeramy Simmons (1-2) was sharp through seven innings, allowing
just two runs and four hits, but ran out of gas in the eighth, allowing a pair
of singles and then a double, which scored a run, to start off the inning.

Ryan Meyers couldn’t put out the fire,
giving up a single and two more runs before finally quelling the uprising.

Kevin Tomasiewicz slammed the door and
    picked up his 15th save.

Farm Report : Oliver Struggles Again

Here's a recap of yesterday's minor league action courtesy of the great Toby's Mets Minor League Report…

    Norfolk Tides (AAA)

    Oliver Perez: 5 runs
on six hits and 5 walks in 3.2 IP.

    Binghamton Mets (AA)

Miguel Pinago struck out six batters in
6.1 innings while giving up just two runs on four hits.

    Matt Lindstrom picked up the
    save.

Henry Owens struck out a batter in a perfect ninth.

    Michel Abreu was 2-4.

    St. Lucie Mets (A+)

Mike Carp (.291/.382/.435) was 2-4 and
scored both of the Mets runs.

Jose Sanchez was roughed up for five
runs in five and a third.

    Hagerstown Suns (A-)

Bobby Parnell was solid, allowing three
runs on seven hits in seven innings, but took his ninth loss of the year.  He struck out eight batters and didn’t walk
    one.

Kevin Tomasiewicz worked a scoreless eighth.

    Pelfrey Shines In Norfolk Return

Mike Pelfrey's return to AAA Norfolk was a piece of cake. Mike allowed two earned runs on three hits
and two walks in five innings in Norfolk's 6-2 win at Buffalo. He struck out three, required 90 pitches, and
surrendered a homer to Jason Cooper.

Henry Owens blew his first save. He had gone 18-18.

Farm Report : Humber Stumbles In B-Mets Return

Phil Humber returned to Binghamton for the first time since his season ending Tommy John surgery last year. Humber gave up 4 runs on 6 hits and 3 walks while striking out 5, but felt pretty good despite the results.

“I wouldn't call it a full outing. Stuff wise,
everything was good. I had good bite on my fastball, and my breaking
ball was good. It's just location was the main thing I was missing.”

Matt Lindstrom and Henry Owens each pitched a scoreless inning in the game.

Farm Report : B Mets Blast Off

Here's a few highlights of last nights minor league action courtesy of Toby's Mets Minor League Report

    AAA

    • Edgardo Alfonzo had a pair of hits, including a double and an RBI.
    • Chris Basak had three hits and
      an RBI.

    AA

    • Chase Lambin, who was demoted in place of Edgardo Alfonzo, doubled and homered to drive in a pair
      of runs.
    • Carlos Gomez had three hits
    • Ambio Concepcion had four hits
    • Henry
      Owens
      collected the save.

    A+

    • Mike Carp
continued his hot hitting with two hits, including a double.
    • Corey Coles had three hits to raise his
      average to .337.

Farm Report : Owens Keeps Rolling

Henry Owens struck out all three batters he faced Monday in his inning for Double-A Binghamton.

    Owens
has given up just six hits and posted a 47/7 K/BB ratio in 22 2/3
innings for Binghamton. If not for an elbow injury that caused him to
miss time last month, he'd be in Triple-A right now. He should be
anyway. The 27-year-old could join the Mets sometime in July or August.

Hot Foot was founded by a group of life long friends who also happen to be die hard Mets fans. Hot Foot comes from the great 1986 Mets relief pitcher Roger McDowell who would use a wad of gum to stick a roll of cigarettes to the back of unsuspecting teammates shoes and light them on fire, thus a Hot Foot. Hot Foot is inspired by the same rock and roll baseball mentality of Roger and the 86 Mets, and uncensored commentary with news, notes, rumors and analysis revolving around the world of the Amazin New York Mets.
