The NYPost is reporting that the Mets will not be signing RHP Freddy Garcia. According to the report, the Mets only showed mild interest and Garcia decided to look elsewhere.
I suppose we could have signed Garcia, and moved John Maine to the bullpen, with the way the pen has performed these last few weeks. Again, it shows that Omar Minaya has confidence in the current players on the team and in the system to take this team into October, and I just don’t see this bullpen getting it done. Maybe Sidd Finch is available, who knows..

I think Garcia has lost alot of velocity over the last 4-5 years, and did not look impressive at all with the Phils last year. I’d rather have a guy like Mike Pelfrey struggle and learn from his mistakes than a guy like Garcia struggle and take up a spot in the rotation.

I like the idea, can never have too much pitching, evidenced by the Mets having Brian Lawrence making key starts for the team down the stretch. I just hope if we make a deal a roster spot isn’t guaranteed.
