Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports is reporting that the Mariners have sent outfielder Adam Jones home to the U.S. from Venezuelan Winter Ball, signaling that a deal for Erik Bedard could be on the way.
The Mariners would also be asked to include reliever George Sherrill, minor league pitcher Chris Tillman, and 1 or 2 other prospects in the proposed trade.
The Baltimore Sun, however, reports that the Orioles have denied they have agreed to a deal.

Sphere: Related ContentJohn Hickey of the Seattle Post-Intelligencer reports that the Mets and Mariners appear to be the two final teams in the running for the left-handed ace of the Baltimore Orioles, Erik Bedard. The Cincinnati Reds would not give up their best outfield prospect and therefore have dropped out of the running. The report also states that it seems as if the Chicago Cubs have also dropped out of the race for Bedard. Here is what Hickey has to say about the Mets:
What this means is that the competition for Bedard may come down to the Mariners and the New York Mets. But the Mets have not pushed hard for Bedard, and the Mariners, while willing to trade Adam Jones, haven’t been willing to meet all the Baltimore demands.
It would be wise for the Orioles to continue to wait out and see what happens with Johan Santana. Since the Mariners don’t appear to be willing to part with Adam Jones in a deal for Bedard, the Mets could jump in and make an improved offer if they miss out on Santana. The Orioles may be intrigued more by an improved offer from the Mets than an sub-par offer from the Mariners that doesn’t include Adam Jones. The latest offer that the Mets have made for Bedard was back in December when the team reportedly offer Carlos Gomez, Philip Humber and Aaron Heilman.

Lisa Kennelly of the Newark Star-Ledger writes today…
The Mets, however, prefer Baltimore’s Erik Bedard over Santana, since he wouldn’t require the same lucrative extension as part of the deal.
Bedard is attractive because he’s already signed for the next two yearsThe Mets had offered the Orioles Carlos Gomez, Phil Humber, and Aaron Heilman for Bedard back in Decemeber which did not draw much interest from Baltimore. The Orioles have expressed that they prefer to deal Bedard out of their division, which leaves the Red Sox and Yankees as unlikely suitors.

Dayn Perry of FoxSports.com and the book “Winners” will be joining me to talk hot stove tonight. As always we will have the chat room set up for questions and comments. Last week it was a great way to interact with other fans as well. To listen live at 7pm or to the replay click here.
Among some of the topics are a Johan Santana update, the price of middle relief, and the impact of the Florida- Detroit Trade. Earlier today I talked about how Omar must pull out all stops to acquire Santana, just like Frank Cashen did with another Minnesota LHP back in the late eighties. To read click here.
