Rotoworld reports that the Cardinals have signed 4 Free Agents.
Cardinals signed second baseman Adam Kennedy, who had been with the Angels, to a three-year, $10 million contract.
Cardinals signed RHP Kip Wells, who had been with the Rangers, to a one-year, $4 million contract.
Cardinals re-signed catcher Gary Bennett to a one-year, $800,000 contract with a mutual option for 2008.
Cardinals signed infielder-outfielder Eli Marrero to a minor league contract.
If we hadnt signed Valentin then I would've liked the Mets to go after Kennedy hard. But with the Valentin signing, it doesnt make too much sense to sign Kennedy because like Valentin, he only hits righties. That being said, I would think it would make sense that the Mets to go after either Loretta or Durham who could platoon with Valentin.

The Mets have
unconditionally released outfielder/catcher Eli Marrero, who
was designated for assignment last week.
Many in Miami were celebrating, as power had been temporarily transferred to Fidel Castro's brother as he has fallen ill. Hope that this may open the floodgates for many Cuban defectors to Major League Baseball was something many Cuban Mets were not willing to discuss, the New York Times reports…
As many of Miami’s Cubans danced in the streets over the prospect of
Castro’s demise, the Mets’ two players of Cuban descent — pitcher Orlando Hernández and the utilityman Eli Marrero — were far more cautious. Hernández did not want to talk about the issue.
“I stay away from politics,” he said. “I’m here to play baseball.”
When
a reporter from a Spanish-language newspaper tried to explain
Hernández’s atypical abruptness on this issue, Hernández waved him off,
saying, “Don’t say anything more.”
Marrero also brushed off
several attempts by the news media to discuss the subject but later
said he did not want to get caught up in all the celebrating when
nothing about Castro was certain.
“You don’t know if he’s going
to die or if he’s just resting somewhere,” said Marrero, who left Cuba
26 years ago when he was 6. “Until it’s official news, I can’t really
jump to any conclusions.”
Not to get too political here, but the White House is not optimistic that the loss of Fidel would change much…
Is it just me, or did your heart skip a beat when Reyes hit the deck at home? I know mine did. I actually feel like Reyes should have gone in a bit stronger, looks like he went in half hearted. Willie said after the game he just got the wind knocked out of him. I'm thanking all that is sacred that he's ok. Reyes returned and finished the game, but went hitless, ending his streak.
Tough loss tonight, which is funny to say when you're up 12 games, but you want to beat the good teams to prove you can win in the postseason and the Red Sox are one of them. Mets will have their two aces up next and will have a chance to win this series, but will face a tough task against Schilling and Beckett.
Soler looked overwhelmed all night. He got in trouble as he usually does in the first and it unraveled from there. The bats never got going, aside from Delgado and Marrero's solo homers. Wright got badly fooled on a nasty curve by Lester. Milledge made some nice plays off the wall but the one he missed scored two and honestly thats a tough task for a guy who just came up to the big leagues.
Get back on the horse and bring Pedro, who loves to step up in the spotlight and he will have a major stage to show his stuff on tomorrow. I hope he does his best to show the Boston faithful what they gave away.
