Eddie Coleman was a guest of Chris Russo’s today on WFAN.
Eddie was asked if the now infamous Tony Bernazard is with the team and speaking with the media.
“He’s here (in Colorado), we haven’t talked to him as a group but he’s here to be talked to, he hasn’t held a press conference though.”
Eddie spoke regarding media reports of Jerry Manuel backstabbing or politicking for Willie’s job.
“I don’t think Manuel was trying to get Willie’s job…Willie felt that people knew stuff that he didn’t know but I don’t think Manuel’s is that type of guy.”
Eddie detailed some of things Manuel plans to implement.
“The next obstacle is Carlos Delgado, two things Manuel has stressed is resting guys and fluidity in the line-up and I think if he’s not hitting, he wont be in the line-up.”
Eddie gave some insight regarding players and their reaction to the change.
“I think the players know it’s on them now…they are associated with the collapse and now the slow start.”
Eddie’s opinion of Manuel.
“I like Jerry I think he’s a good man, he’s a good manager, he’s a guy who can motivate this bunch and more important he thinks he can.”
Eddie also said he spoke to Tori Hunter, now with the Anaheim Angels, and Hunter said this is the time of year where Johan Santana ‘really starts to kick it in’.

Jose Reyes spoke with WFAN’s Eddie Coleman right after yesterday’s Mets win against the Phillies.
Reyes on the win,
“Its never easy against the Phillies we got the first two games here and the series so, it’s a real good feeling for us.”
Asked about Jose’s leadoff double to start the game,
“I know I gotta get on base. So I said to myself before the game I am gonna swing at the first pitch if it’s gonna be middle in. So, I hit a double. It was great to start us off right there.”
Reyes on his home run,
“I didn’t try to hit the ball out. I was just trying to get a good pitch to hit, drive in a run.
But I have enough power to hit it out over the wall so it’s a good thing for us.”
On the Phils coming back in the game,
“Like I said before it’s never easy against the Phillies there are so tough. They have a good team but we are so happy to take the first two games of the series.”
On the celebrating:
“Yeah, it felt great. I miss that, not doing that for the first couple of weeks of the season. So now I’m gonna be back to doing the same exact thing I did last season, it’s a really great feeling for me and a great feeling for everyone in this dugout.”
When Eddie C. ended the interview saying he thinks everyone else in New York likes the way Jose celebrates, Eddie said “so keep it up,” Reyes replied, “OK Papa” …Classic.

Eddie Coleman today on WFAN’s Mike and the Mad Dog:
About the attitude of Mets brass:
“Everybody in the organization was bothered by Sunday’s loss. Willie was angry, probably as angry as I’ve ever seen him. It was ugly Sunday”.
Later in the interview Eddie added that the reports that Willie and Omar met for a half hour after the game were overblown because they meet before and after almost every game.
On Oliver Perez:
“Willie gets frustrated with Oliver… he really ticked Willie off Sunday. Willie went out there and read him the riot act. Schneider has already done it and he’s new here”.
On the Booing:
“Some guys in this clubhouse are kind of sensitive and I think it does effect them. So, yeah I think it does effect home field advantage. Not guys like Wagner but other guys”.
While talking about players not speaking to the media and not showing leadership, Eddie singled out Johan Santana saying “He’s never really around” and with the investment the Mets made Eddie thinks Santana should step up even though that is not a responsibility a starting pitcher usually takes on.
So, now even Eddie C is going after players? Bringing up Santana’s lack of leadership? I was under the impression that Santana was brought here because he’s a darn good pitcher. All this negativity takes away from the enjoyment of being a fan. So, please Metsies go on a nice winning streak, I need it for my own sanity.
