Eddie C On WFAN

wfan.jpg
Eddie Colman who follows the Mets for WFAN spoke with Joe Benigno and Evan Roberts today. Here are a few notes from their talk,

  • Eddie thought the Jose Reyes story was interesting, more because of the timing. The fact that Carlos Beltran went to Reyes before his big night on Tuesday. So, it may have had an immediate impact. Also, Eddie thinks Beltan looks at Reyes as a little brother and gets a kick out of him and his antics.
  • Beltran is different than when he first got here, more comfortable. Still sensitive to the boos and he knows he’s been knocked for not being more vocal.
  • Half of the Mets games have been against left handed pitchers and Ryan Church has handled it well. Likes the number two spot.
  • Joe Smith has been so good there is no rush to bring back Matt Wise. Last year Smith hit a wall. So far this year he has been nasty.
  • John Maine has just walked too many guys. He is usually better than that. He was really angry with himself. I think your gonna see the John Maine from spring training real soon.
  • Pedro Martinez, I’ll wait and see. But I do think he’ll be back sooner than people think. The Mets just don’t want to rush him and cause a set back.
  • Nelson Figueroa said something like sequels are usually bad but I want to prove that wrong tonight.

I always enjoy Eddie’s reports. I feel he’s just relaxin, maybe having a brew, talkin Mets baseball. But with the extra bonus of some inside dope. Interesting take on the Reyes, Beltran little brother thing.

  • New WFAN Schedule

As you all know by now, Mike and the Mod Dog will be taking over for Imus In The Morning on WFAN for the next two weeks. After the next two weeks, there could be more changes to the WFAN schedule then you can shake a stick at. Below, I tell you where each show should go and who should be on them.

    5:30 AM - 10:00 AM
    Mike Francessa and Chris Russo
Gotta put the big boys in the prime slot. The only reason this didn't happen already was because Imus was in the way.

    10:00 AM - 1:00 PM

    Chris Carlin and Jerry Recco
I would prefer to have either Adam Schein
or Sid Rosenberg work alongside the Continent in this slot, but I don't see them coming back. Carlin is a lock for this gig. He has been due for a big break ever since he left producing for Mike & The Dog. As for Recco, he hosted a few overnights this summer when Tony Paige was off and did a very good job. He is very knowledgeable and has a great sense of humor.

    1:00 PM - 6:30 PM
    Evan Roberts and Joe Beningo
    Evan
is one of the rising stars in sports talk radio and its been a ton of
fun listening to him since he has been on the station and seeing him
rise from host at MAXIM to a big gig at the biggest sports station in
the land. I can't say enough good things about him and he should be a
staple for years to come. As for Joe, I love Joe. Sure, he gets carried
away sometimes, but its only because he is one of the most passionate
    fans in the country.

    6:30 PM - 10:00 PM
    Steve Sommers
Keep the Smooz where he is. He is good there. He has a loyal following and and his monologues are great following games regardless of the outcome.

    10:00 PM - 1:00 AM/Alternate Overnight Guy
    Sal LaCotta
    I
listened to a little bit of his show on New Years (or was it Christmas)
when I went to the bathroom and I was impressed. He also has a good
taste in teams being a Mets and Falcons fan.

    1:00 AM - 5:30 AM
    Marc Malusis
    I'm not
that big of a fan of Malusis, but if it gets Tony Paige, who might be
the worst host on all of radio, off the air, I'm all for it. I'd rather
listen to the Latin Beat then listen to Tony again. Always agreeing
with every caller, constantly contradicting himself, saying everything
Isiah does that's questionable is genius while he insults some of the
same actions under Larry Brown and him lack of knowledge about anything
besides boxing can drive you up a wall. I mean, if you host a show on a
SPORTS radio station, you should at least know who won the world series
5 years ago. Anyway, Malusis tends to think he is much more knowledgeable than the callers while he doesn't know too much himself.

So there you have it. Comment away.

    Who Is Hot Foot?

Hot Foot was founded by a group of life long friends who also happen to be die hard Mets fans. Hot Foot comes from the great 1986 Mets relief pitcher Roger McDowell who would use a wad of gum to stick a roll of cigarettes to the back of unsuspecting teammates shoes and light them on fire, thus a Hot Foot. Hot Foot is inspired by the same rock and roll baseball mentality of Roger and the 86 Mets, and uncensored commentary with news, notes, rumors and analysis revolving around the world of the Amazin New York Mets.
