Matthew Cerrone at Mets Blog relays word that SI.com’s Jon Heyman said on WFAN yesterday that the Mets and Tigers are discussing a trade that would send Marcus Thames to the Mets for Jorge Sosa.
Thames had 18 HR and batted .241 last year for the Tigers in 86 games, playing 37 games in left field and 33 games at first base.
Seems like he would be decent backup for Alou and Delgado. Doesn’t hit for much average but has some pop in his bat.

On the Willis front, Mets sources believe the Tigers may look to flip the lefty they just got from the Marlins because of payroll limitations. The Mets would be interested in speaking with the Tigers, but no dialogue is believed to have occurred yet. It is believed the Marlins may have insisted the Tigers take on both their arbitration-eligible players, Willis and third baseman Miguel Cabrera. The Tigers acquired both players knowing they couldn’t afford both, and may be looking to replenish their farm system by flipping Willis.
Rubin also mentions that the Rays may be interested in former Met Cliff Floyd.

Jones, 39, successfully converted 38 of 44 saves during the course of the season.
The Tigers feel Jones is the safe way to go at least until Zumaya is ready to return.

In 453 at-bats this past season, the 32-year old Jones hit .285 while hitting 5 homeruns and driving in 66 runs. Definitely a down year in terms of power for Jones as he has managed to hit over 20 home runs in the previous three seasons.
Infante, 25, has played in the reserve role for the Tigers the past couple of seasons after being called upon in 2004 to be the everyday second-baseman.
This is the second trade in this offseason that the Tigers have made after acquiring veteran SS Edgar Renteria from Atlanta for two prospects just two weeks ago.
