Nine straight! The Mets blanked the Rockies again tonight at Shea by a score of 7-0. Mike Pelfrey got the win and Mark Redman took the loss.
Pelfrey was once again dominant, as he went eight shutout innings allowing no runs on six hits. Pelfrey induced 15 outs on groundballs and struck out five Rockie batters.
Carlos Beltran got the scoring going in the 1st when he turned on an inside fastball and launched a three run homer over the bleachers in left to put the Mets up 3-0. Carlos Delgado later sent a towering fly ball over the right field wall for a two run homer to put the Mets up 7-0.
Joe Smith pitched the 9th inning to end it.
Enjoy the break everyone. The Mets resume play Thursday against the Reds.

The Mets look to end the 1st half on a high note as they face the Rockies at Shea starting at 8:10 EST tonight. Mike Pelfrey will face off against Mark Redman. The game can be seen on ESPN and can be heard on WFAN.
Key to the Game:
- Keep on Rollin ‘Pelf: Pelfrey has been stellar his last eight starts, in which he is 5-0 and the Mets as a team are 7-1. Pelfrey has allowed one run in his last 14 innings and will face a Rockies lineup that struggles mightily on the road.

Eight straight! The Mets blanked the Rockies by a score of 3-0 this afternoon at Shea. Carlos Muniz got the win for the Mets, and Ubaldo Jimenez took the loss for the Rockies. Billy Wagner closed it out for his 22nd save of the year.
A few notes:
- Pedro Martinez went 4 scoreless innings, but left after experiencing right shoulder stiffness.
- Carlos Beltran doubled, stole third, and was driven home by Fernando Tatis in the 4th for the Mets 1st run of the day.
- Jose Reyes crushed his 10th homer of the year off Jimenez.
- Brian Schneider delivered an rbi double to drive home Carlos Delgado to put the Mets up 3-0.
- The bullpen committee of Muniz, Aaron Heilman, Scott Schoeneweis, and Billy Wagner combined on five hitless innings. The Mets pen has now held opponents scoreless in it’s last 18.1 innings.
The Mets look for the sweep and their ninth straight win tomorrow vs the Rockies. Mike Pelfrey will face Mark Redman.

The Mets look for their eighth straight win today versus the Rockies at Shea Stadium. Gametime is slated for 3:55 EST and can be seen nationally on FOX. Pedro Martinez will toe the rubber for the Mets. He will be opposed by the Rockies Ubaldo Jimenez, who threw eight innings of one run ball against the Mets in June.
Keys to the Game:
- More Great Pitching from Pedro: Martinez faces a tough task today, to match what the four other starters did before him: allow less than three hits. Yeah, Ollie Pelfrey Santana and Maine all allowed less than 3 hits in their starts and have been a big reason why this team is streaking right now. I have faith in Pedro, he’ll get it done. Pedro also can’t pull an Ollie and walk seven guys, this is just as bad as allowing seven hits.
- SuperSub: Argenis Reyes gets his second start of the year, giving last night’s hero Damion Easley the day off. I like what I’ve seen from Reyes so far, both swinging the bat and in the field. If Castillo is out for any long period of time, we should be able to survive with the Easley/Reyes combo.
- Lucky Tube Socks: I believe this win streak has something to do with Andrew Beaton’s lucky tube socks.

7 in a row! The Mets defeated the Rockies by a score of 2-1 tonight at Shea. Pedro Feliciano got the win for the Mets, and Taylor Buchholz took the loss for the Rockies. Billy Wagner closed it out with a 1,2,3 ninth for his 21st save of the year.
A few notes:
- Ollie Perez was solid again, going 6+ innings, allowing one run on a solo homer by OF Brad Hawpe. Ollie also walked six batters, and allowed only two hits.
- The Mets scored their first run on a 2 out single by Jose Reyes in the 5th.
- The Rockies left the bases loaded in the 6th, 7th, and 8th innings.
- The Mets bullpen was great again, helping Ollie get out of a 1st and 2nd no out jam in the 7th inning.
- Somewhere, Andrew Beaton is wearing his lucky tube socks proudly
The Mets look for their 8th straight win tomorrow. Pedro Martinez will face Ubaldo Jimenez.

The Mets play host to the Rockies in game one of their three game set tonight at Shea. Gametime is slated for 7:10 EST and can be seen on the CW11. Oliver Perez will toe the rubber for the Mets vs Aaron Cook of the Rockies.
Keys to the Game:
- Ride the Hot Bats: Fernando Tatis and Endy Chavez are in the lineup again, and these guys are on fire right now. Tatis went 3-4 yesterday with two doubles, a homer, and 4 rbi. Chavez is hitting close to .360 in July. Sure, they won’t keep it up but enjoy it while it lasts.
- Three Straight for Ollie?: Could it be that Oliver Perez is actually turning it around for good? He has been great of late, with wins over the Yankees and Phillies. Real Ollie would be appreciated tonight.

The defending NL Champs come to town for the final series before the All Star break. With the Mets riding high right now with a six game winning streak, and the Rockies being blasted out of Milwaukee 11-1 yesterday by Dave Bush (who?), it’s clear who has the momentum heading into this series. Let’s take a closer look at the pitching matchups…
Game 1: Aaron Cook (11-6 3.66 ERA) vs. Oliver Perez (6-5 4.62)
- Now, many would give the advantage to the Rockies in this matchup based solely on wins and ERA, but the fact of the matter is Perez has been pitching alot better than Cook has in the last few weeks. Perez has allowed one run over his last 14 innings, while Cook has allowed seven runs in his last 16.1 innings pitched. Advantage Mets.
Game 2: Ubaldo Jimenez (4-8 4.21) vs. Pedro Martinez (2-2 6.86)
- It looks as if Jimenez’s June 21st start against the Mets, where he allowed one run over eight innings, might have been the turning point for the young fireballer. Since then, he has allowed a run or less in two of his three starts, not bad. I’d like to see a few more starts from Pedro before i can give him the edge in this matchup. Advantage Rockies.
Game 3: Mike Pelfrey (7-6 3.93) vs. Mark Redman (2-4 7.07)
- This was the easiest choice of the three games. Big Pelf has been oustanding lately, as we all know. The Rockies also throw their weakest pitcher at us in the final game of the series. Advantage Mets.
On the DL: Rockies
- SS Troy Tulowitzki, 1B Todd Helton, and reserve OF Ryan Spilborghs. 2B Jayson Nix and 1B Joe Koshansky have been filling in for Tulowitzki and Spilborghs.
Let’s keep it rolling, Let’s go METS!

The Mets (35-36) begin a three game set tonight against the Colorado Rockies (31-42) at Coors Field. Gametime is slated for 9:05 EST. The pitchers for tonight’s game are John Maine (6-5) for the Mets and Aaron Cook (10-3) who pitched a complete game four hitter the last time he faced them.
Keys to the Game
- Don’t Let Holliday Beat You: Matt Holliday is one of the most feared hitters in all of baseball, and can beat you in many ways. If Maine can limit the damage by the two big guns Holliday and Garrett Atkins, the Mets should be ok.
- We Need Length: For the second straight start, this has been a Key to the Game for John Maine. His last time out he threw 6.1 innings against the Rangers, and in order to match the 10 game winner Cook, Johnny is going to need to bring his A Game.
- Bring the Bats: Guys, this is Coors Field, some crooked numbers would be greatly appreciated. Dan would also appreciate it if you could win on his birthday.
- Healthy Rockies: This Rockies team is completely healthy now and are armed with all their big bats. The Mets need to get on top early and put the pressure on the Rockies to beat them. Troy Tulowitzki is off the DL and in the starting lineup tonight against the Mets. Tulowitzki went on the DL almost two months ago with a torn left quad. At the time, Tulowitzki was hitting only .152 (16-105).
For a lineup, head to John Delcos’s blog for the Journal News.
Watch the game on SNY at 9:05PM and as always, head on over to The Hot Foot Bleachers to chat during the game.

After a big day with the bats yesterday, the Mets (23-25) were defeated by the Rockies (20-30) by a score of 4-1. John Maine went 6 innings, allowing four runs (three earned which came on a Seth Smith three run homer after Jose Reyes made an error in the fourth inning). Aaron Cook went the distance for the Rockies, allowing only a single run.
Maine was great through three innings, and looked like he was well on his way to his best game of the year. He struck out six in the first 3 frames, but errors came back to bite him.
Jose Reyes drove home Endy Chavez with a single for the Mets only run.
Scott Schoeneweis and Matt Wise pitched well out of the pen, holding the rockies scoreless for 2 innings.
Tough game to swallow, only because A) Maine had good stuff today and B) we played a Rockies lineup missing all of its all stars.
The Mets travel home to face the Florida Marlins tomorrow in the start of a four game set. Mike Pelfrey will face Ricky Nolasco.
