Dominican newspaper Listin Diario is reporting that a friend of OF Moises Alou told the paper that he is close to signing a 1-year deal worth $8 million with the M.E.T.S. New York Mets of New York Town.
Here is a translation of the article (note, the translator is off on some words, but you get the picture):
“The Mets of new York are just about to sign al Dominican Moses Alou
by a total reckoned in eight million dollars for the season of the
2007, according to it expressed a close source al gardener.
The
agreement is almost sure that be concluded this weekend and the
assembly will proceed to the confirmation and presentation of the
veteran, who will become a Hispanic one more than passes to form rows
of the subways.
Last night was reported that the player was outside of the Capital city, but people close to were echoed him of the movement.
The
virtual firm of Moses with the Mets would become the gardener the left
of that assembly, being joining with Carlos Beltrán and Shawn Green.
Cliff Floyd, who has performed that position in the last three years,
is an agent free and do not it is expected that the club sign it again.
To be specified the pact with Moses, would join with José Kings,
Pedro Martínez, July Franco, Guillermo Dot, Duaner Sánchez and Anderson
Hernández, as the Dominican ballplayers that act for the assembly that
has as general manager al native Omar Minaya.
Alou would
fortify exceedingly the house to be able of the Metro, that already
counts on Beltrán, the own Green, as well as Carlos Thin and David
Wright.”
I don't have a clue if I like this signing or not. The guy can hit the cover off the ball, but he is just about as injury-plaiged as OF Cliff Floyd. Our defense is sure to be horrible though. I'm sure a platoon of Lastings Milledge and Endy Chavez would be just as good, but I guess Omar Minaya likes Endy coming off the bench more.
Its a one-year deal, so I assume they would let him walk and play OF Carlos Gomez in 2008.
Mets left fielder Cliff Floyd underwent successful
surgery yesterday to repair his strained left Achilles' tendon, with
the procedure performed by team physician Dr. Struan Coleman at the
Hospital for Special Surgery in Manhattan reports The Journal News.
He'll be in a supportive boot for at least two months before beginning his rehabilitation.
Floyd
and general manager Omar Minaya will talk, but it's doubtful the Mets
will offer anything more than an invitation to spring training. The
contract numbers would be worked out after they see where he is
physically.
“Nobody is going to do anything until they know I can play,” a realistic Floyd said last week.
Cliff Floyd tells us on his MLB blog that he intends to do everything he can to prove he can play the field in tonights game.
Once I get to the ballpark, I will get treatment and do my normal
activities, tape it up and get sweaty. I have to make Willie Randolph
believe that I'm ready to start Game 5. He feels good about his lineup
right now and I have to find a way to get back in.
During practice, I will have bench coach Jerry Manuel hit me some
balls in the gap and over my head. I want to see if I can get good
jumps on them. We have Tom Glavine pitching Tuesday and his defense
will play a big role on how he does. When you have a pitcher like
Glavine, you have to be ready. He is looking for a spectacular play. He
wants the routine plays made.
The left fielder believes that if there is a Game 6, he might be
able to play the field. “That's my goal,” Floyd said. “But the
healthiest guys have got to play right now.” reports The New York Daily News.
Mets manager Willie
Randolph said before last night's game that it was up to Floyd when he
played. “I think he's feeling a little bit better today,” Randolph
said. “But it's up to him. When he comes in, gives me a thumbs up, I'll
put him in the lineup after conversing with him on how he feels. But
that's totally his call.”
Cliff Floyd said he could feel two pops in his ankle as he rounded first in last nights NLCS, NorthJersey.com quotes Floyd after the game…
“Something's not right and we'll see what's wrong,” Floyd said. He
is to have an MRI today and meet with doctors. “What I did in L.A., I
was optimistic and I told them I could play. I wasn't lying. … The
worst part is not me, it's shorthanding the team.”
If Floyd is done for the series, or even if he's limited to
pinch-hitting, Randolph's decision to include the ailing veteran on his
postseason roster won't look good.
I have to disagree with the last statement, even if Cliff cannot play the field, I think he is still quite valuable as a left handed bat off the bench, much more so than say Lastings Milledge or Ricky Ledee.
Bryan Hoch on Inside Pitch Magazine reports that Cliff does not seem confident he can play the outfield for the NLCS given the condition of his achilles.
“You always use the word, 'accountability,'” Floyd said. “You hold
yourself accountable to go out on the field for them. It's frustrating,
not only for me but the team as well.”
Floyd said that, as is, he could see himself in a pinch-hitting
role, and that “if there was a DH, we wouldn't be having this
discussion.” But the key is patrolling left field, and after Floyd left
the third inning of the NLDS deciding game, there was concern that his
season might be over.
Speaking candidly, Floyd said he was “not really confident” in
his ability to bounce back from the injury, which he said feels
different and more painful than his previous leg injuries.
“When you talk about tendons, I think they're a different story,” Floyd
said. “You don't know what'll hold up and what will not.”
Veteran New York Mets' outfielder Cliff Floyd will miss the rest of his
team's playoff run due to an Achilles tendon injury, according to a
report in the New York Daily News, reports Fox Sports
funny, i can't find the report on The Daily News today. in any event, I hope this isn't true. i really wanted to see Cliff on the field for the playoffs, for sentimental reasons. my head does tell me that we can now put Endy Chavez out there who is a sparkplug in the form of a mini-Reyes, and a gold glove outfielder if he played enough games to qualify. so, get well Cliff, but if you can't go, we will still have a solid replacement and you'll be the first guy i'd want to see sip the champange once again if we go all the way.
Cliff Floyd felt a feeling he described as “an ice pick in his achillies” in last nights game and was removed in favor of Endy Chavez.
Cliff hopes to rest it before the NLCS, and had this great quote on his blog today “I’ll just rub some champagne on it and see, or I’ll have a few beers.
Maybe a few more, and by the time I get to Wednesday, I’ll be good to
go.”
Whatever it takes Cliff!
Cliff Floyd is now blogging along with his buddy David Wright. Zoe Rice of Pick Me Up Some Mets has passed along the info to the Hot Foot that her favorite Met, Mr. Cornelius Clifford Floyd, is now one of us, and we look forward to him sharing with us his postseason experiences.
