2nd Time Omar Trades for Church

As mentioned earlier, the Mets traded Lastings Milledge for OF Ryan Church and C Brian Schneider.

An interesting side note is that this is the 2nd time Omar Minaya has traded for Ryan Church. According to baseball-reference.com Church was traded along with Maicer Izturis to the Montreal Expos for RHP Scott Stewart. This of course, was when Omar was GM of the Expos.

Well, Omar certainly seems to like Church. The guy has good power to the gaps, and should benefit from leaving RFK. He only had 15 HRs in 144 games last year but did manage to hit 43 doubles. In addition to that, Schneider is a relatively cheap defensive stud.

Milledge to Nats for Church and Schnieder

WFAN is reporting an official trade that that is sending Lastings Milledge to the Washinton Nationals for OF Ryan Chruch and C Brian Schnieder.

According to Mike and The Mad Dog, during a tour of Citifield today Mets ownership informed them of the trade.

In 2007, Church hit .272 with 15 HR and 70 RBIs and Schnieder hit .235 with 6 HR and 54 RBIs. Both players had OBP over .300.

I agree with M and MD, I’m sure the Mets must have made the calls and realized that Milledge wasn’t going to get them a pitcher. THey have a better shot with Gomez. I will post the press release link when it is available.

UPDATE: 1:16pm

SNY.tv has confirmed the trade.

Mets Rumors From Heyman

Here is a recap of some Mets Hot Stove rumors from Jon Heyman’s latest article on SI.com:

  • The Twins will likely center any offer for Johan Santana around a centerfielder to replace Torii Hunter and an obvious young stud starting pitcher to replace Santana. Heyman believes sending Mike Pelfrey and one of the three young outfielders (Lastings Milledge, Fernando Martinez, Carlos Gomez) to the Twins would be a start.
  • The Mets have talked to the Nationals about Brian Schneider, Orioles about Ramon Hernandez and Rangers about Gerald Laird.
  • One opposing team executive spoke on free agent SP Livan Hernandez. “He looks like a Met to me.”
  • Heyman says Milledge looks like a goner.
  • Former Mets catcher Mike Piazza may look to go to Japan if he cannot find a job in the majors next season.
  • A package of Mike Pelfrey, Kevin Mulvey and Lastings Milledge could be a reasonable package to pry SP Dan Haren from the Athletics.

    Who Is Hot Foot?

Hot Foot was founded by a group of life long friends who also happen to be die hard Mets fans. Hot Foot comes from the great 1986 Mets relief pitcher Roger McDowell who would use a wad of gum to stick a roll of cigarettes to the back of unsuspecting teammates shoes and light them on fire, thus a Hot Foot. Hot Foot is inspired by the same rock and roll baseball mentality of Roger and the 86 Mets, and uncensored commentary with news, notes, rumors and analysis revolving around the world of the Amazin New York Mets.
