After Brian Bannister’s a sizzling start, which resulted in many people criticizing Omar Minaya for ever trading him, he has sunk back to earth. Bannister was traded to the Royals for RP Ambiorix Burgos prior to the 2007 season. Burgos is now recovering from Tommy John Surgery
Bannister began the year with two earned runs in his first three outings, however since then has lost his last four starts. He now has a record of 3-4 with a 4.46 ERA.
Meanwhile, Lastings Milledge has been unimpressive thus far with the Nationals. Milledge is batting .256 with with only one HR and 11 RBIs.
John Delcos reports on his blog for the Journal News that OF Moises Alou, LHP Jason Vargas and RHP Ambiorix Burgos have been placed on the DL retroactive to March 21.
Not a huge surprise here, mainly procedural. Alou won’t be ready for at least a month or so, Burgos is done for the year recovering from Tommy John surgery, and Vargas is recovering from surgery to repair a tear of the labum in his left hip.
The saga many in the baseball community have dubbed the Crime of the Century has been solved. The one and only Adam Rubin reports that Port St Lucie Police have arrested a housekeeper employed at the hotel in which Burgos was staying, and she has confessed to the evil evil act.
One can only assume that stealing from a Met results in life in prison. Unless you steal from like Shawn Estes or Ed Hearn. Thats just probation. And they probably give you a reward for robbing Vince Coleman or Anthony Young.

Ambiorix “Amburglar” Burgos was robbed of some jewelry according to the AP. According to the report, a bag containing almost $300,000 of jewelry disappeared from his hotel, and later reappeared around $30,000 in bling lighter. There is no further information at this time, though its believed none of his cheeseburger stash was affected.
Wow, how is this not bigger news? Where’s my 24 hour news coverage of the Burgos Robbery on CNN, Fox News, and whatever that one with Katie Couric is?
More importantly, how the hell does the Amburglar have $300,000 in bling? And if thats just his ‘hanging out in the bars of St Lucie” bling, how much more does he have from his stints at Shea? Personally I’m assuming he has a Jose Reyes shaped gold medallion. Cause if I was a AAA player hoping to crack the roster, thats what I’d get. And maybe some David Wright and Carlos Beltran shaped rings. Man, I’d be decked out like a baseball rockstar. If only I had $300,000 to drop on jewelry. And could play baseball. For now I’ll just have to settle for my sunglasses from the mall and my button with Metsgal on it.

Brewers 3B Ryan Braun and Red Sox 2B Dustin Pedroia have both been named Rookie of the Year for the 2007 season.
Braun hit .324 and led all rookies with 34 home runs and a .634 slugging percentage. He was promoted to the major leagues on May 25th and still somehow managed to hit 34 home runs. We could be talking MVP for Braun if he was here all season long.
While Braun did receive the award, he didn’t win by much. Braun just barely beat out Rockies SS Troy Tulowitzki, beating him by just two-points, the closest margin in the NL since the current system was adopted in 1980.
Pedroia received 24 of the 28 first-place votes.
Brian Bannister, whom the Mets traded for Ambiorix Burgos, placed third in the AL Rookie Of The Year honors. Bannister was 12-9 with a 3.87 ERA and a 1.21 WHIP in 2006. Burgos underwent elbow-ligament replacement surgery in August and will be out for a prolonged period of time.
