Selig May Not Punish Mitchell Report Guys

SI.com is reporting that Bud Selig is now considering not punishing the players that were named in the December Mitchell Report on steroids. Selig had previously said that he would punish the players around the time the report came out.

I guess Mitchell’s pleading to not punish the players finally got through to Bud..

  • Donovan: Hampton Throwing Like ‘99

In an article for SI.com, John Donovan comments on Mike Hampton, and how he is looking very good in his comeback try for the Braves. Donovan even goes on to say that “Hampton is looking like it’s 1999 again”.

Hampton missed all of the 2007 season recovering from elbow surgery.

Well, as a Mets fan, this is not good news. A rotation that could include Smoltz, Hudson, Glavine, Hampton, and possibly former Tigers prospect Jair Jurrjens could pose a problem and wreak havoc in the NL East…

  • Stark: Howard’s Case Is Historic

ESPNs Jayson Stark writes an interesting piece on how 1B Ryan Howard’s arbitration hearing could set the precedent for future stars to cash in. Howard was awarded 10m after only 2 full seasons in the big leagues. To put this into perspective, Albert Pujols was awarded 7m in his first year of arbitration eligibilty in 2004.

As Stark notes, guys like Hanley Ramirez and Prince Fielder have to be licking their chops at this.

Omar Minaya signed Mets young studs Jose Reyes and David Wright to longterm deals in the summer of 2006.

Great Job by Omar smelling that this would happen, now we don’t have to go through any of this with either of them..

  • Photo Shows Clemens Was At Party

Foxsports.com is reporting that there is new evidence in the Roger Clemens case that shows a picture of him at a party at the house of Jose Canseco in 1998. Clemens went under oath saying he was not at the party, and his former trainer Brian McNamee has said that he knows for a fact Clemens was at the party.

I think they are both no good, but this cannot be looking good for Clemens.

    Dykstra owes 111k

  • Sheffield: Boras A Bad Person

Foxsports.com is reporting that Tigers OF Gary Sheffield has said that once his case with the Yankees regarding money that he might be owed is settled, he will not be hesitant to reveal “ugly things” about his former agent Scott Boras.

Of Boras, Sheffield says “It ain’t going to be pretty, No fine is going to be big enough. No suspension is going to be long enough.”

I think we’ve all known for awhile that Boras is not easy to negotiate with, but after the A-Rod fiasco, Boras rep was hit pretty hard and realizes that not many people in baseball are his fans. That being said, as long as he keeps getting the money, players will continue to go to him.

    Garcia Won’t Be A Met

Metsblog is reporting that although earlier reports had suggest Free Agent pitcher Freddy Garcia was spotted at Mets camp, it was only to visit with good friends Pedro Martinez and Johan Santana.

I think Garcia has lost alot of velocity over the last 4-5 years, and did not look impressive at all with the Phils last year. I’d rather have a guy like Mike Pelfrey struggle and learn from his mistakes than a guy like Garcia struggle and take up a spot in the rotation.

  • No More Handshakes for Jose

In a segment for Foxsports.com, Ben Maller reports that Jose Reyes has said that he will no longer do his handshakes in the dugout, and will also tone down the dancing in the dugout.

It’s unfortunate that it had to come to this, because I for one love his enthusiasm and the handshakes, but after his slump in September, Jose is focused and I could not be happier.

    Who Is Hot Foot?

Hot Foot was founded by a group of life long friends who also happen to be die hard Mets fans. Hot Foot comes from the great 1986 Mets relief pitcher Roger McDowell who would use a wad of gum to stick a roll of cigarettes to the back of unsuspecting teammates shoes and light them on fire, thus a Hot Foot. Hot Foot is inspired by the same rock and roll baseball mentality of Roger and the 86 Mets, and uncensored commentary with news, notes, rumors and analysis revolving around the world of the Amazin New York Mets.
