According to Scott Merkin of MLB.com, free agent reliever Scott Linebrink is on the verge of signing a four-year contract with the Chicago White Sox. A report on Wednesday night from ESPN 1000 in Chicago, says the two sides agreed on a $19 million deal.
I expected roughly just over $5 million a year over three years for Linebrink. Looks like he took the extra year for $4.75 million a year.

Here’s a rundown of Hot Stove news this afternoon…
The Phillies have offers out to Japanese righthander Hiroki Kuroda and former Phillies lefthander Randy Wolf.
Yankees manager Joe Girardi stated that if the season were to begin today, he would go with a rotation of Chien-Ming Wang, Mike Mussina, Philip Hughes, Joba Chamberlain and Ian Kennedy. The Yankees will also make a run at Chicago White Sox closer Bobby Jenks, have interest in re-signing Luis Vizcaino and have been tied to free agents Ron Mahay and Scott Linebrink. The New York Yankees are shopping center fielder Melky Cabrera for pitching and could OF Torii Hunter could become a formidable option if they can trade Cabrera by early next week.
Brewers GM Bob Melvin has stated that he has a strong offer on the table for free agent closer Francisco Cordero and hopes to have him back for the 2008 season.
Torii Hunter has a six-year offer on the table from the Texas Rangers. At least five teams have made offers to Hunter, one of which includes the Los Angeles Dodgers who are expected to go after Hunter aggressively if their trade talks with the Florida Marlins for third baseman Miguel Cabrera break down. Among the other teams include the Kansas City Royals, Washington Nationals, Chicago White Sox and Hunter’s former team, the Minnesota Twins.
The Los Angeles Angels may look to bring back fan favorites from the 2002 World Series Championship, David Eckstein and Darin Erstad. In order for Eckstein to return, he would likely have to accept a reserve role to backup both middle infield positions.
The Boston Red Sox reportedly have interest in making free agent RHP Kerry Wood the primary setup man for closer Jonathan Papelbon.
Jerry Crasnick of ESPN.com reports OF Steve Finley at the age of 43 is still not ready to retire.
