Earlier today, Jon Heyman tweeted that the Mets have interest in right hander Joel Pineiro. Pineiro had an outstanding year last year for the Redbirds, posting a 3.49 ERA and a 1.14 ERA.
Pineiro is very interesting. He is a groundball machine, and always pitches great against the Mets. I don’t like him for 10m a year, but I think I’d be willing to take the gamble if he accepted something like 3 yrs for 21m…
With the news that the Mets are weary of John Lackey’s past arm issues, the Daily News reported that Matt Holliday’s asking price may be out of the Mets price range. Holliday is thought by many to be the biggest free agent on the market this year.
The Mets must do everything in their power to sign Holliday or Bay. Mike Cameron or Jermaine Dye is not going to beat the Phillies. If the Mets want to beat the Phillies they are going to have to spend big on the big free agents.
