Here are the Top Foot Awards for the Mets‘ 9 to 7 victory over the Reds.
Who Says My Age Is a Risk Award:
- Carlos Delgado again disproved the naysayers last night, going 2 for 5 with 2 runs and 4 RBIs. Two of Delgado’s RBIs came with one swing of the bat when he hit a towering shot to right field to give the Mets the early lead in the first inning.
American Heart Association’s Stress Test Award:
- Mets‘ fans got their first taste of a typical Francisco Rodriguez save last night as the Reds were able to load the bases in the bottom of the ninth. Only 12 of K-Rod’s 30 pitches were for strikes and he walked 2 of 6 batters he faced. Luckily Rodriguez, got Laynce Nix to pop out to deep right center field to end the game and with that the entire tri-state area let out a large, collective sigh of relief.
Jerry Maguire’s “Help Me, Help You” Award:
- Goes to the Reds’ defense, specifically Alex Gonzalez and Jay Bruce, who graciously gave the Mets a few gifts during last night’s game. Gonzalez botched a would be double play ball in fifth inning which loaded the bases and eventually led to the Mets scoring three runs. In the seventh inning, Bruce failed to catch a ball hit by Brian Schneider when he slipped on the grass allowing three Mets to score. The Mets tried to return the favor in the bottom of the ninth, but the Reds didn’t take advantage of the Mets‘ good deeds. Sorry Reds, we tried.
I’ll Take 3-9 Over 1-12 Any Day Award:
- With runners in scoring position in the fifth and the seventh innings, both Carlos Beltran and Brian Schneider came through with clutch hits. Beltran batted in two runs with a single up the middle and Schneider cleared the bases with a double to right field. Now only if the Mets could continue this trend.
