Relief pitcher Duaner Sanchez, who was having a brilliant 2006 season until he was hungry one night in Florida, might not get the chance to pitch for the Mets in Citi Field, speculates Joel Sherman of the New York Post.

Thanks to MLBTradeRumors for the link.

Sherman reports that:

…Sanchez has something at stake…namely a job with the Mets. He has to make a positive impression or else the Mets will seriously consider releasing him by 2 p.m. on April 1 and owing the righty just one-quarter of his $1,687,500 contract ($421,875).

Another idea brought up would be to trade him, perhaps toward another righty bat for the outfield.

After watching Sanchez in 2006, and even after the accident, I never really thought that his job with the Mets would be in jeopardy.  Then came his arrival in camp in 2007 a heavier man, and I knew that it would be a long road back.  Once he did make it back to the team, he clearly wasn’t the same guy he was before the accident. If he ends up off the team, he’s fallen a fairly long way.
