Ben Jones from MLB Trade Rumors passes over a very interesting link from MLB.com, which says that the Yankees have reached their quota of Type A and Type B free agents this off season.  They have signed Mark Teixeira, C.C. Sabathia and A.J. Burnett, who all were of Type A status.

According to the article:

Under the rules, “if there are from 39 to 62 [Type A and B] players [during a given offseason], no team can sign more than three.”

Andy Pettitte, also of Type A status, does not count in the tabulations because they Yankees re-signed him, rather than taking him from another team.

The Yanks have certainly had their fair share this off season.

It’s just important to note that they will not be players for guys like Manny Ramirez, Ben Sheets or Oliver Perez as previously speculated.  They weren’t viewed as serious suitors for these guys, but their interest always drives up the price.
