The Hall of Fame ballots are in, and as expected former Met and at times Special Assistant Coach in Charge of Jose Reyes, Rickey Henderson has made it to Cooperstown on one try. All but 28 voters put Rickey in, with the other 28 most likely being senile or just really firm believers in stolen bases being unimportant.
In other Met Hall of Fame news, Jesse Orosco fell slightly shy of the needed 75%, receiving only 0.2% of the vote. So to that one guy who voted for Orosco, here’s a Hot Foot Thumbs up. If Jesse Orosco were here right now, and had received rougly 75% more of the vote, well he’d throw his mitt in the air and embrace Gary Carter. David Cone and Mo Vaugn also didn’t make it, though both managed to at least get a number of votes that would be considered higher than the margin of error.
Congrats to Rickey, who deserved to get in on the first ballot. And I can’t wait for what will most likely be the most amusing induction speech in the history of the Hall of Fame. Hopefully once in he can use his pull to get Keith in there too.
