According to MLB.com’s Marty Noble, the Mets have little interest in trading for Andruw Jones. Noble says that, according to sources, “superficial” trade talks occurred between the Mets and Dodgers at the Winter Meetings in early December, but that their interest has “diminished” over time.
I think most Mets fans were scratching their heads when this rumor originally surfaced. Jones’ ability has totally eroded over the past two seasons, and while he’s only 31, it’s hard to believe he’ll ever be the perennial gold glove caliber, 30 home run threat he once was. If it meant getting rid of Luis Castillo, that would be one thing, but there was never any indication that the Dodgers would be interested in taking on Castillo’s contract.
