These offers for 1B Mark Teixeira are making my head explode, they’re so high.
As Jon Heyman for SI.com, the Mets are waiting for Tex to sign somewhere before seriously engaging his agent, Scott Boras, in talks for Oliver Perez or Derek Lowe.
Once you can look into Boras’ face and see dollar signs in his eyes, it’s best to just stay out of the way and wait for him to be ready to talk. Good move, guys.
Heyman goes on to say, as my colleague Peter Wade points out, once the Mets have signed someone from their “A-list,” they’ll move on to concentrating on their “B-list,” including names such as Jason Marquis, Freddy Garcia, and Tim Redding.
I like that the Mets seem to prioritizing here. Besides, as has been discussed many times, it would be great if the Mets would land Lowe. Now that the Yanks have spent so much green on AJ Burnett and CC Sabathia, I’d imagine the Mets have one less competitor in the Derek Lowe sweepstakes.
We all thought that the Tex drama was over last night, but unfortunately for the more impatient in us, it wasn’t…
As a complete side note, click through to Heyman’s story and look at the first comment. Wonderful, insightful comment from someone with that name? Yup.
