Looks like the Mets are trying to add another present in Mets fans stockings before the holidays. Most have been writing, because of all the clients held by Agent Scott Boras, that there would be little movement in the baseball free agent world until after the New Year but FoxSports.com is reporting that the Mets are making a play for Tim Redding.
The Mets, trying to create additional options for their rotation, are attempting to sign free-agent right-hander Tim Redding, major-league sources say. Redding, 30, is seeking a two-year contract.
The Mets are looking for a front of the rotation starter as well and earlier SI.com’s Jon Heyman said he thought the Mets would try to secure someone of that ilk before pursuing the Redding’s of the world.
I don’t mind if they seemingly rush this a bit because you don’t want to be in a situation where you settle. If they like Redding go get him. With the way most teams have to deal with at least a few injuries to their starters during the long regular season it’s always good to have guys of your choosing at the back end.
Redding in 2008 started 33 games and was 10-11 with a 4.95 era.
