ESPNews is reporting that the Yankees and pitcher AJ Burnett have reached a preliminary agreement on a 5 year 82 million dollar deal.

Burnett was also being courted heavily by the Braves, but the Yankees became too much and the  Braves could not match their offer.

Burnett went 18-10 with a 4.07 ERA in 2008 for the Blue Jays

In my opinion, this is great news for Mets fans. 1) Burnett won’t be a Brave, and 2) this might open the door for the Mets to sneak in and sign Derek Lowe..
