Tim Dierkes of MLBTradeRumors.com relays a story from the Daily News that the Chicago White Sox are the favorites at the moment to acquire OF Bobby Abreu, though they have to make another move to make room for him:
Bobby Abreu and his agents haven’t heard from the Yankees since the season ended, but the free-agent outfielder is garnering interest from several teams. The White Sox seem to have the inside track, according to a source familiar with the situation, but Chicago would have to trade Jermaine Dye before signing Abreu.
The report also mentions the Rays as having interest, while also mentioning that the Mets own Johan Santana has been campaigning to bring him to Citi Field.
No thanks, I say. He’s a productive, enticing hitter for sure, but watching him in the field is pretty brutal, and he’ll definitely become a liability out there.
Bobby batted .296 for the 2008 season with an OBP of .371, 20 homers, and 100 RBI, while hitting 39 doubles.
