According to MLB.com, the Yankees are expected to make an offer to RHP Ben Sheets in the neighborhood of 2 years for $30 million.
Sheets is one of the most frustrating free agents to figure out. When he’s healthy, he’s an ace, no doubt about it. The problem is that you can pretty much write down that he’ll miss a huge chunk of time every year. If there was any indication that he might be a bit more reliable (which there clearly is none) I would’ve loved it for the Mets to try and sign him to some sort of short-term deal. Again though, I trust few people to make their starts less than Sheets. 2 years makes sense for the Yankees, even if the money sounds like a little much. Either way, if they get him, good luck with all that…
When on the mound for the 2008 season, Sheets pitched to a record of 13-9 in 31 starts, with 5 complete games, 3 shutouts, and a 3.09 ERA. However, he missed the 2008 NLDS with a muscle tear in his elbow.
