The Detroit Free Press is reporting that the Tigers have inquired about CL JJ Putz, and whether or not he could be had in a trade from the Mariners. The article speculates that the Mariners could ask for power bats Jeff Larish and Matt Joyce, both of whom played at the major league level last year.
After a stellar 2007, Putz was plagued by injuries in 2008. He went 6-5 with 15 saves for the 102 loss Mariners.
Putz is very good, but I doubt the Mets could have topped the combo of Joyce/Larish anyway..
