Foxsports.com’s Ken Rosenthal is confirming the Francisco Rodriguez deal to the Mets but is adding that the deal will include a $14 million vesting option for a fourth year that would raise the total value of the contract to $51 million.
That vesting option is within reach as long as Rodriguez pitches his normal number of innings as a closer, either in the third year of the deal or in a combination of years two and three. “Basically, he’s just got to be healthy,” one source told Rosenthal.
The NY Post’s Joel Sherman, who was the first one to break the K-Rod deal is reporting that the Rockies are still trying to pry Aaron Heilman away from the Mets:
The Rockies continue to be interested in Aaron Heilman, even if it does not involve a Huston Street trade.
For what it is worth a source of mine at Fox Sports is telling me that Tim McCarver is saying that the Mets should still be in the market for Brian Fuentes.
