The Detroit Free Press is reportng that the Tigers and Rangers are discussing a deal that would send C Gerald Laird to the Tigers for prospect pitcher Guillermo Moscoso. Laird is on the table due to the Rangers abundance of catchers in their organization, most notably Jarrod Saltalamacchia and Max Ramirez.
Laird, 29, hit .276 with six homers and 41 RBI in 344 ABs for the Rangers in 2008.
I like Laird, and would have liked to see the Mets make a push for his services. Moscoso is not a premium prospect, so I’m guessing the Mets could have dangled one of their mid level prospects and the Rangers might have bitten.
