MLBTradeRumors is relaying a report that is reporting Japanese SP Junichi Tazawa has received a few offers from several MLB teams, but may have decided on the Red Sox as his team of choice. Tazawa is only 22 years of old, and the presence of Daisuke Matsuzaka may be the deciding factor in the Tazawa sweepstakes.
Here is a short scouting report on Tazawa, courtesy of Jim Allen at ESPN:
“Tazawa is unlikely to throw much harder than he does now; his fastball barely tops 90 mph when he is rested, and he struggled to hit 88 mph at the end of last season.”
I would have liked to see the Mets make a run at Tazawa, with the lack of depth in our farm system. It doesn’t look like Omar and co. and interested though, however.
