Tim Dierkes of MLBTradeRumors.com relays a report from WFAN’s Sweeny Murti that the Giants have signed Edgar Renteria to a 2-year, $18 million deal.
In his second year with the Atlanta Braves, Renteria hit .332 with a .390 OBP in 494 at-bats, but slipped in a big way for the Tigers, hitting .270 with an OBP of .317 in 503 ABs.
Who knows…maybe going to a San Francisco team that’s pretty much in shackles thanks to Barry Zito will take some pressure off of Renteria and he’ll be able to find where all those hits that he misplaced went. Good luck to him and good luck with all that.
Update 7:29 Added by Rob Harding
MLBTraderumors is now reporting that Renteria has not yet signed with the Giants, but the team will continue to talk to Renteria, Rafael Furcal, and others.
At this point, I trust Heyman and Rosenthal, no one else.
