Bud Selig announced today that post season games now can no longer officially be called early to do rain. The rule comes after downpour conditions almost caused a World Series game in Philly to be called, though an eventual Tampa tie led it to be postponed.
No surprise is this decision. With so many questions arising during the fall when the World Series was forced into a brief haitus while the sky fell, its nice to see the MLB actually do something to keep a potentially controversial and or embarassing situation from arising. Though it always seems like this sort of thing happens when Philly is involved. Luckily Ryan Howard knew the World Series couldn’t end in a tie. Hopefully now there will be a little more motivation for the MLB to get the Playoffs moving a little earlier. Much as I’d love to see them try to play a post season delayed game in Boston in November under snow.
