Yesterday, when I listened to WFAN’s Mike Francesa blather on about his conversation with Mets GM Omar Minaya I assumed there was no mention of CC Sabathia because conventional wisdom dictates that the Mets, after securing the great Santana last off-season, would have no interest in another high priced top of the rotation stud like CC Sabathia.

But the NY Daily News is reporting that the Mets have:

apparently joined the Yankees in pursuit of baseball’s biggest free agent prize.

A high-placed Yankee source Thursday reacted to the development by saying: “The Mets are in it? Great. Bring it on.”

The News went on to report that a baseball executive said although Minaya is in the midst of talking trade with another GM, for a pitcher, he would first have keep an eye on the Sabathia free agency progression.

I got excited just reading this. To me there is no downside here. I say go for it. What a one-two punch! Best in baseball. The News goes on to say that the Mets would not deny the story. The Yankee source who mouthed off “Great. Bring it on” should keep in mind the expression: Be careful what you ask for…
