Among the things heard on talk radio today:
Pure idiocy. While I often find the moronic ramblings of Mike Francesa entertaining. I can’t bring myself to endure his drivel today. This goes for the fans who call into his show who suggest the most ridiculous trades, and basically want to blow the entire team up.
Look folks, I was all for blowing the team up when they were stinking up Flushing back in June, but the core of the team is strong. I can’t really think of any realistic moves I would make that remove Reyes, Wright or Beltran from this roster.
I understand you’re upset, I get it. I know you’re frustrated, so am I. But please, lets not act like complete jackasses for the benefit of WFAN’s ratings.

The more and more I think about it, trading Reyes may not be the worst idea in the world. I think Francesa does make some viable points about the three core parts of this offense unable to come up in big spots over the past two years.
Last year, I wouldn’t have traded Reyes in the Santana deal because I thought he had earned at least another season to prove himself.
For the right package, I think I would trade Reyes.
Trading Reyes is a laughable option. He is the 2nd best SS in the game, behind Hanley Ramirez, and is 26 years old. The Mets control him for the next few years too. Last time I checked, great shortstops don’t come around that often. Great LF and RF and 1B are a dime a dozen, but not shortstops.
I think I would stop being a Met fan if Omar traded Wright or Reyes (or Beltran) this offseason, barring an absurdly overwhelming package in return.
First, leave Wright, Reyes and Beltran alone - I can’t believe all the folks that are calling for any of them to be traded - this isn’t the Florida Marlins! (HA!) But, the Front Office, yes! Omar, for sure! Y’see, when Willie and J*rry would put Heilman in, Omar was the enabler by keeping him on the roster. Bad behavior shouldn’t be rewarded and that guy also signed Scho (hope his baby is doing fine, though) for 3 years (and put him out there when he was injured) and Luis Castillo for 4. Granted, Omar has done great things and has put half a great team together, but even though he’s good, we deserve better obviously. I have no suggestions as to who should take their places, but I would hire Leo Mazzone as the pitching coach.
Anthony, this exact conversation was driving me up a wall yesterday as well. The formula for Francesa is pretty simple, I’m afraid: October is devoid of any interesting New York Sports outside of football, so what will be the absolute craziest thing to bring up so that as many people as possible call in? Trade ideas involving 2 of the most beloved players on the team, of course! Don’t forget a sip or 90 of Diet Coke, and the complete stomping out of differing opinions.
