It’s amazing how good of a hitter Daniel Murphy is. He may not have the light tower power, but this guy looks like he’s in the mold of Kevin Youkilis. A guy with great plate discipline who won’t strike out alot. I was watching his interview with Kevin Burkhardt the other today and he explained what he was looking for every AB, based on the previous AB, so advanced for a guy fresh out of AA. Tonight, you see him studying the book AFTER his clutch two run double to put the Mets ahead. This guy works hard, and it shows. Three ABs stick out to me with Murph…
August 9th- Two run PH Homer off Marlins LHP Renyel Pinto.
August 27th-RBI double off closer Brad Lidge.
Tonight-Two run PH double off RHP Julian Tavarez.
As Keith Hernandez was saying, this guy has serious potential to be a dangerous #3 hitter, if he keeps improving and working at his game.
I don’t think Tony Bernazard does many things right, but telling the Mets to take a flier on Murphy is certainly paying huge dividends.
