The Mets, behind Jon Niese, blanked the Braves by a score of 5-0 this evening at Shea. The aforementioned Niese got his first big league win, and Jo-jo Reyes took the loss for the Braves.
Niese was spectacular, and was in complete control the entire game. He went eight shutout innings, allowing six hits and striking out seven.
Now, I know it’s one start, but he looked pretty darn good tonight.
The Mets offense was courtesy the longball tonight. Jose Reyes and Carlos Beltran hit solo homers, and David Wright added a two run shot. Fernando Tatis also went 3-4, and added an RBI single of his own.
Luis Ayala closed it out in the 9th to shut the door on the Bravos.
Again, what a great bounce back win by this team. Now let’s get after Campillo tomorrow and take the series.
The Mets and Braves finish off their three game set tomorrow with Jorge Campillo facing off against Oliver Perez.
