As you probably have noticed by now, the Matt Cerrone has posted the Mets’ magic number over at Mets Blog.

Last year, Cerrone was criticized for potentially jinxing the Mets by posting the magic number on his website - and we all know how last season ended.

Ultimately, if the Mets blow their lead in the NL East we can safely blame Cerrone for the collapse and undoubtedly claim that he and his irresponsible decision to post the magic number is the reason for all Mets’ struggles.

If we aren’t gearing up for a playoff match up come October then I would be in favor of every Mets fan taping him to a chair and forcing him to watch the 2006 NLCS Yadier Molina home run as retribution for the reckless decision he made to post the magic number. After that we would send him to a pyramid of success seminar with ex-pitching coach Rick Peterson. If we think he hasn’t learned his lesson after that we’ll make him watch the first inning of the last game of the season last year, where Tom Glavine gave up seven runs while recording only one out.

Other potential forms of hazing include:

  • Forcing him to wear a John Rocker jersey and ride the 7 train.
  • Making him relive the signings of Bobby Bonilla, Mo Vaughn and Kaz Matsui.
  • Having him watch game 5 of the 2000 World Series.
  • Showing him the 11th inning of the 1999 NLCS with Kenny Rogers blowing the game.

I’m only kidding - sort of.
