Finally! The Mets broke through against ace Cole Hamels early, and held on to defeat the Phils by a score of 6-3 to salvage the final game of the season series. Johan Santana got his 13th win, and Hamels took the loss. The Mets ended the year 11-7 against the Phils, and now have a two game lead with 19 games to go.

Santana was money again, as he went 7.1 innings of two run ball. He was relieved by Pedro Feliciano and Brian Stokes in the eighth, who held the lead for him.

The Mets offense attacked Hamels early, scoring three runs.  The biggest blow was a Carlos Delgado two RBI single. Speaking of Delgado, he also launched two solo homers, both on hanging curveballs from Hamels.

Luis Ayala closed it out in the 9th.

Nice win. A must have, in my opinion.

The Mets are off tomorrow, but start a two game series with the Nationals on Tuesday. Oliver Perez will go for the Mets.
