The Mets were defeated by the Phillies by a score of 6-2 this afternoon at Shea. Jamie Moyer got the win for the Phils, and Pedro Martinez took the loss for the Mets. With the loss, the Mets lead in the NL East is down to one game.

Martinez didn’t have it, again. For the second straight start against the Phils, Martinez was crushed. Today, he went four innings, and allowed six runs. With every start it looks like Pedro is coming to the end of his career as a good starting pitcher.

The Mets offense was asleep for the second straight game, until David Wright and Carlos Beltran RBI doubles in the eighth got them on the board.

The Mets bullpen did go five innings of scoreless relief.

Yes, I’m cranky. I’m not happy with this team. They picked a bad time to fall asleep, and all of a sudden this division lead is down to one game.

Tonight, the Mets try to retain their lead in the NL East with the ace on the mound. Johan Santana will face off against Cole Hamels.
