It’s always a good day when the pitcher gets to bat in the first inning, and that was the case for the Mets today.  The Mets scored six runs in the first and swept the Brewers this afternoon.

Should the Mets make the playoffs, this will almost certainly be their first round match up, with the game one match up being the same one we saw on Monday: Johan Santana vs. Ben Sheets.

Oliver Perez became the 4th Mets SP with double digit wins, earning his 10th of the season.

The scoring in the first came off the bat of Carlos Delgado, Ryan Church and Brian Schneider.  Delgado had an RBI single, Church had a grand-slam and Schneider had a solo-HR.  Perhaps Schneider is breaking out of what my friend calls it, his “career long slump.”

Oliver Perez did not have his control today, but pitched well enough with his six run lead.  He walked five and struck out five in 6.2 innings of work while allowing two earned runs.  The bullpen has continued its strong play, and didn’t allow a run in 2.1 innings of work.

The Mets scored again in the 8th and 9th off a Nick Evans single and a David Wright sac-fly.

The Mets are off tomorrow, and head home for Friday when they have their final series against the Phillies.
