The Mets took the rubber game of the three game set today against the Padres by a score of 5-3. Aaron Heilman got the win, and Heath Bell took the loss.
Johan Santana pitched great again, going seven strong innings, allowing two runs. He struck out seven Padre batters.
The youngsters did most of the scoring today, Daniel Murphy went 2-4 with two rbi, and Nick Evans went 1-3 with an rbi single.
The Mets bullpen faltered again, blowing the save for Santana. Scott Schoeneweis allowed a solo homer to Jody Gerut, tieing it at 3-3. Heilman got the final two outs of the inning for the win
In the bottom of the 9th, David Wright hooked a slider down in the zone down the line over the fence to win the game for the Mets. It was Wright’s 21st homer on the year.
The Mets start a big three game set against the Marlins tomorrow. Ricky Nolasco will face Oliver Perez.
