MLB.com is reporting that New Orleans Zephyr pitcher Brandon Knight is the most likely candidate to take Pedro Martinez’s start in the rotation this time around with Martinez mourning the death of his father in the Dominican Republic. Knight’s stats in AAA are impressive: 5-1 with a 1.60 ERA. Ruddy Lugo, Brian Stokes, and our old friend Nelson Figuoera could also get consideration for the start.
The fact that Knight was actually considering retirement makes this a really nice story. Hopefully he can make a good impression this time around and can fill in if any of the other starters go down later in the year…
