The Mets look for their eighth straight win today versus the Rockies at Shea Stadium. Gametime is slated for 3:55 EST and can be seen nationally on FOX. Pedro Martinez will toe the rubber for the Mets. He will be opposed by the Rockies Ubaldo Jimenez, who threw eight innings of one run ball against the Mets in June.

Keys to the Game:

  • More Great Pitching from Pedro: Martinez faces a tough task today, to match what the four other starters did before him: allow less than three hits. Yeah, Ollie Pelfrey Santana and Maine all allowed less than 3 hits in their starts and have been a big reason why this team is streaking right now. I have faith in Pedro, he’ll get it done. Pedro also can’t pull an Ollie and walk seven guys, this is just as bad as allowing seven hits.
  • SuperSub: Argenis Reyes gets his second start of the year, giving last night’s hero Damion Easley the day off. I like what I’ve seen from Reyes so far, both swinging the bat and in the field. If Castillo is out for any long period of time, we should be able to survive with the Easley/Reyes combo.
  • Lucky Tube Socks: I believe this win streak has something to do with Andrew Beaton’s lucky tube socks.
