I admit I don't know enough about Val Pascucci to make an educated comment, but he does remind me a bit about Michel Abreu. I think Abreu was destroying Double A like two years ago, but nothing ever happened with him because he was old and I guess not seen as major league material.

Gary,

I was just suggesting that bringing in another 1B amps up the pressure on Delgado, who has been struggling and his massive contract is up at the end of the season.

And I never said that Phillips will take Castillo's job. Castillo is unfortunately here for a long time, and granted if I had any say about it I'd bench him. Phillips is a .248 hitter but he has pop, he's a decent fielder and has loads of flexibility.

Pascucci is a career minor leaguer and there are reasons players like him are career minor leaguers. He's a Minaya retread that he brought along from Montreal because he clearly just liked the guy and we needed another guy on our AAA team. Pascucci is an awful fielder, and for one I am a guy that loves good fielding behind our pitcher.

When Church is healthy (and Alou isn't), I want an OF of Endy, Beltran, Church - not Pascucci and not Pascucci on the bench. Everybody has some man crush on Val Pascucci because he is beating up on AAA pitching, but the facts are he's a .278 minor league hitter and that has never translated into MLB success for him. I trust there are reasons why he's been only given one shot at the bigs, and my guess is that he's just not particularly good.

Andy Phillips is going to be the end of the Delgado era at 1st base? Are you kidding?

Four games at second base in his career and he's the better option than Castillo because of his bat? A four-year, $25 million deal with Castillo's name on it says Castillo won't be sitting on the bench anytime soon.

Phillips was unemployed this long for a reason. He's a career .248 hitter. He should not see the majors before the other half dozen first basemen in the Mets system do.

If Pascucci isn't the platoon option before Phillips, then there is seriously something wrong.
