According to Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports, the Mets have claimed former Yankees’ 1B Andy Phillips, since he was designated for assignment by the Reds.  Phillips, a righty, will be a nice platoon with the lefty 1B Carlos DelgadoHe also will provide some infield flexibility, having played four career games at 2B and 29 career games at 3B.   In 204 career games in the field (not including 11 games as DH), Phillips has made only eight errors.

In 2007 with the Yankees, Phillips batted .292 with 2 HRs and 25 RBIs in 185 ABs.

I like this move, his bat has always had some pop and if he can play it with any competence, he’ll be better than Luis Castillo at 2nd base.  Plus, Delgado has been inconsistent at best this year and really struggles vs. lefties, so Phillips will be a breath of fresh air vs. lefties.  Plus, at Delgado’s age he can use consistent rest.

Are we nearing the end of Carlos Delgado’s days in a Mets uniform?
